Sarah Hyland on co-designing with Marchesa and never making fashion mistakes

Not such a ditzy teen after all! Sarah Hyland on co-designing with Marchesa and NEVER making fashion mistakes

It seems Modern Family's Sarah Hyland has some quite impressive fashion design skills.
The actress, 22, who plays text-addicted teen Hayley Dunphy in the hit show, describes how she co-designed the ethereal Marchesa gown she wore to the 2012 Emmys in the new issue of Teen Prom magazine.
Talking about the creative process she says: 'I think it’s cool to be recognized, especially since I co-designed it.'

For events she says that she likes to change her appearance - sometimes sexy, sometimes demure - but her favourite look is vintage.
In a behind-the-scenes video detailing the Teen Prom photoshoot, she jokes: 'I sometimes think I was born in the wrong generation.'

She counts the timeless looks of Katharine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn as her style inspirations.
'I really do like the vintage look... I sometimes think I was born in the wrong generation'
And indeed on the cover of the magazine Miss Hyland is classically styled. She is seen wearing a gold mosaic strapless dress from Tiffany Designs, with a soft updo hairstyle and minimal make-up letting her flawless complexion shine.
And in another shot she rocks a more glamorous guise, dressed a black low-cut shimmering gown with her lips coated in a deep-red gloss.
While many stars admit they make wardrobe mistakes, Miss Hyland says that she doesn't think she ever makes a bad choice.

'If you like it at that time, then it wasn’t a mistake,' she explains.
She cites the ethereal, crystal-embellished Marchesa gown she co-designed with the label's co-founder Georgina Chapman this fall as one of her favourite red carpet creations.
Touching on her style evolution she explains: 'I’ve always expressed myself through my style, from when I was a child playing dress up to now.'
However she does admit that she has had one fashion disaster.

At the Golden Globes this January the vintage Dolce & Gabbana dress she was wearing burst open.
'I think I had to much to eat on the day... and the zipper popped open,' she recalled.
On a day-to-day basis she looks to stars such as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and her typical uniform consists of 'really big sweaters', skinny jeans and flat pumps.
While she remains sure of her personal style, there is one opinion she takes into consideration, that of her longtime boyfriend, actor Matt Prokop.
'His opinion means a lot to me. If he says he likes it, then I’m like, ‘Okay this is good.''
In April Miss Hyland revealed that Mr Prokop, 22, had stayed by her side while she received a kidney transplant.
She previously told Seventeen Magazine: 'He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself.'
Other starlets to grace the cover of Teen Prom include Kendall Jenner, Ashley Greene and Lucy Hale.
