Kelly Rowland admits to being envious of Beyonce's solo success in her new song Dirty Laundry

'When my sister was on stage killin' it... I was enraged': Kelly Rowland admits to being envious of Beyonce's solo success in her new song Dirty Laundry

As Destiny's Child they stormed the music charts and sold millions of records around the world.
But it always seemed that Beyonce was the more prominent one in the group, somewhat overshadowing fellow members Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland.
That became even more evident when the group split up and went on to have solo careers.

From 2002 onwards, Beyonce blazed the charts with hit after hit, including tracks such as '03 Bonnie & Clyde' with now husband Jay-Z, 'Crazy In Love' and 'Baby Boy', in many ways leaving her Destiny's Child bandmates in the dust.
As Kelly progressed with her own solo career, it seemed that the subject of Beyonce's success would always be raised in her interviews.
Ever the close friend, Kelly would have nothing but nice things to say about her pal and former bandmate.

But now it seems that Kelly has somewhat of a confession to make, and what her fans have been thinking for some time.
The 32-year-old songstress has just released a new track titled Dirty Laundry, where she seemingly admits that she was once jealous of now mother-of-one Beyonce.

One particular lyric in the tune, which also contains very colourful language, appears to demonstrate this.
Kelly sings: 'When my sister was on stage killin' it like a (expletive)/ I was enraged, feelin' it like a (expletive)/ Bird in a cage/ You would never know what I was dealin' with/ Went our separate ways but I was happy she was killin' it/.
'Bittersweet she was up, I was down/ No lie, I feel good for her but what do I do now? ... Post-Survivor, she on fire/ Who wanna hear my (expletive)?'
In the emotional track, Kelly also appears to reveal that she was once in an abusive relationship.
'Meanwhile this n**a putting his hands on me... I swear y'all don't know the half of this industry,' she sings.
Though she does not identify the man in question, Kelly sings that she went through bouts of depression after being allegedly abused by him.
She also sings that she was angry at both Beyonce and her sister for trying to rush to her aid.
'Kinda lucky I was in her shadow/ Phone call from my sister, 'What's the matter?' ' she sings.
She then reveals that she 'was trapped in his house' and isolated from the ones that she loved, including Beyonce.
'Hitting the window like it was me / And still it shattered / He pulled me out and said, 'Don’t nobody love you but me / Not your mama / Not your daddy / and especially not Bey,' she sings.
Kelly's new song is raw and pulls heavily at the heartstrings and the chorus illustrates that she has been long longing to 'air her dirty laundry'.
'Let's do this Dirty Laundry, this Dirty Laundry/ This Dirty Laundry, this Dirty Laundry,' she sings in the chorus.
'When you are soaked in tears for years it never airs out/ When you make pain look this good it never wears out.'

Beyonce is yet to comment on the track, but Kelly is of course proud of her new single, and was regularly tweeting updates before the track was released on Wednesday.
Kelly collaborated with producer The-Dream on the single which appears on her forthcoming album, Talk A Good Game.
Coincidentally The-Dream has also collaborated with Beyonce several times in the past throughout her career.
