Is it the end for Downton Abbey? The fifth series of the popular ITV drama may be the last after cast members are 'keen to go out on a high'

Fans of popular ITV drama, Downton Abbey, are already looking forward to the show's fifth series next year, but they may be disappointed to hear it may be the last.
Cast members are said to be 'keen to go out on a high' and writer Julian Fellowes is turning his attention towards a US version of the show.
A source told the Sunday Express: 'They [ITV] are talking about recommissioning, definitely for a fifth, but some of the senior cast members want to call it a day at five.'

They added: 'The plotline involving Hugh Bonneville going to America [last week] was conceived so that the actor could have time off to shoot a film in the States.
'Some of the plots during the [current] series haven't run that coherently because Fellowes has been writing his new American thing at the same time, jumping from one to the other. It hasn't had his full attention.'
Julian Fellowes's American series for NBC is about the Vanderbilt family in New York and is set in the 1880s and it has already been called 'The American Downton.'

The pair’s budding relationship shocked many residents of Downton, both above and below the stairs.
Musician Jack drew curious stares as the first black face to appear on the show, with Mr Carson asking: ‘Have you never thought of visiting Africa?’
‘And why should I go to Africa, Mr Carson ? I’m no more African than you are,’ Jack counters, in response to the butler’s ignorance.

Rose also drew disapproval and concern from her family when she and the singer danced together, with Tom interrupting their waltz to ‘rescue’ her.
The character of Jack Ross is based on the real-life twenties cabaret star Leslie 'Hutch’ Hutchinson.
He famously enjoyed a passionate affair with socialite Edwina Mountbatten in an age when black men were not usually allowed to be seen with white women.
