'He was brave': Rochelle Humes jokes about being lifted so soon after giving birth as The Saturdays support her on Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
By FAY STRANG
She dances regularly when taking to the stage with her group The Saturdays.
But the experience didn’t seem to help Rochelle Humes when she took part in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special on Wednesday evening.
The 24-year-old failed to impress the judges as she performed the salsa to Santa Claus Is Coming to Town with her professional partner Ian Waite, as her bandmates looked on.
Shake it: Rochelle Humes struggled to impress during the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special on Wednesday evening
Support: The Saturdays were on hand to watch Rochelle take part in the Christmas Special
However Rochelle was in high spirits both before and after her dance as she took on the challenge – which was said was extra tough considering she welcomed her first child Alaia-Mai back in May.
Talking in the VT ahead of her performance she opened up about her and Marvin Humes’ first Christmas with their daughter.
She said: 'Although she doesn't know it I've gone to town. At home Marvin is trying to carry me around, he's really not that great at it. He's a great husband but not a good dance partner.'
Brave: Rochelle said Ian was brave to lift her up so soon after she had a baby
Juggling: Rochelle brought her daughter Alaia-Mai along to rehearsals with her
She continued: 'It's been a roller coaster doing Strictly and having a new baby. She's teething so i've been bringing her into training with me. She's been looking at me like 'mum, what are you doing?'
Rochelle kicked off her performance as a wind up doll before breaking into an energetic routine.
Looking like a very yummy mummy Rochelle wore a sparkly red dress with cut out sections around the sides.
Lively: While Rochelle may not have had the best technique, she was very energetic
Proud: Vanessa and Frankie, who are in her band, watched on delighted as she took to the dance floor
Lots of practise: Rochelle of course appears on stage regularly with The Saturdays, although she said this was a different experience
Her long hair was left loose in big curls, flying about as she danced away.
Following her efforts Darcy told her: 'That was certainly a cracker of a dance. Sometimes slightly wild with the footwork.’
Len said: 'Never mind Santa coming to town, you're coming to town. It was like a messy party popper, bits were flying everywhere.'
Worried:L Rochelle wasn't too keen on hearing the judges comments following her performance
All in good humour: Rochelle giggled away as she heard the feedback
Oh no: She couldn't help but laugh as she was described as a fire cracker
Bruno added: 'It was full of spirit like a Christmas tipple, but we all know you've got to be careful with at tipple.'
And as per usual Craig was a little harsh: 'A bit all over the toyshop darling. You went for it and that's the good thing.'
Speaking to Tess Daly after the judges’ comments, Rochelle said: 'It was awful. I feel like my security blanket is gone. I could see them looking at me.'
Excited: In her VT Rochelle admitted she was very excited about her daughter's first Christmas
Tess then said they very brave to try the dance. Rochelle joked back ' It was brave of him as I've not long had a baby.'
Craig gave her a seven, Darcy an eight, as did Len and Bruno, which unfortunately wasn’t quite enough to push them up the leader board and win the festive special.
Wind up: Rochelle Humes pretended to be a wind up doll in her performance with Ian White
