The Warrior Plan: 8 ways to get a body like a Game of Thrones hotty

The Warrior Plan: 8 ways to get a body like a Game of Thrones hotty

  • Follow our cheeky diet and fitness tips to get the Game Of Thrones look
In Westeros the men are muscled and manly, and the women are sculpted and serious.
In fact, has there ever been a hotter TV couple than Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen?
OK, it’s fiction, but observing the tight bodies of The Game of Thrones characters can teach us a thing or two about staying in shape.

1. EAT MORE
Beefcakes need beef and sculpting that much muscle requires a lot of calories. They have to be the right kind of calories though. Talking about his diet and fitness regime Jason Momoa, the 6ft 4in Hawaii-born star who plays Drogo, has confessed: 'You need to eat big and lift big. But I prefer to eat as much lean meat and green veg as possible and save the calories for Guinness. It keeps you sane.’

2. EAT LOTS OF PROTEIN
Eating a protein-heavy diet has been proven to aid weight loss and help create lean muscle, as seen on the beautiful blonde Daenerys.
Honeyed Chicken from the official Game of Thrones cookbook: Feasts of Ice and Fire (of COURSE there's a Game of Thrones recipe book) is one of the most popular dishes inspired by the show, and easy to recreate by roasting a whole chicken basted in a honey sauce with mint leaves and raisins and oodles of butter.
Chicken too boring for you? Daenerys chows down on a raw heart of a stallion before the eyes of the Dothraki wise woman, who declares that Daernerys' unborn child will be the Stallion who Mounts the World. Protein-filled insects and grubs feature heavily in the show too, for those of us on more of a budget perhaps?

3. INTRODUCE SHORT BURSTS OF ACTIVITY INTO YOUR DAY
Similar to the popular HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout most of the characters in the show are involved in regular sword-swiping, intense one-on-one combat.
Recreate this in the local park with squat kicks, upper cuts, jumping lunges and press-ups. Do each move for 60 seconds then rest for 60 seconds, repeating three times and trying to squeeze more repetitions into each routine each time you do it.

4. FOCUS ON YOUR ARMS
Using your arms as the cornerstone of your workout is the latest way to work your whole body.
The male cast of the show credit press-ups, burpees, handstands and warrior lunges with honing their bulging biceps but for impressive weight loss and improved posture try introducing the Russian kettlebell swing to your fitness regime. 15-20 minutes of swinging sessions just twice a week will give you impressive results within 12 weeks according to lifestyle guru Tim Ferriss.

These tips whilst effective do require a little bit of commitment! If you don’t fancy it you can always go for these slightly less traditional alternatives…
1. STAY COLD
Recent statistics show that shivering for 10 minutes burns the same amount of calories as a whole hour's exercise. The temperatures 'Beyond The Wall'; aren't that much different than 'Up North' here in the UK so leave your bearskins at home and prepare to brave the breeze.

2. PLAY DRINKING GAMES
People of Westeros LOVE a glass of mead or fermented violets at the end of a long day trying to conquer the Seven Kingdoms and you can indulge (almost) guilt-free if you introduce 15 reps of sit ups or squats alongside your Sauvignon every time Tyrion drinks.
There are hundreds of Tumblr blogs devoted to Game of Thrones drinking games without the exercise too (‘drink every time somebody says “winter is coming”, drink every time a woman is naked, drink when an act of incest is committed’ etc etc) which are a lot of fun on your days off duty.
Play drinking games: But will you choose the booze or burpees version?
Stay single: Statistics show that married women are prone to weight gain but will live longer... calculating widower Cersei Lannister doesn't care for 'content'
Play drinking games and stay single: Find drinking games on Tumblr, and intersperse the supping with sit-ups, or grow a black heart and stay single like the incestuous Cersei Lannister

3. STAY SINGLE (especially if you are a woman)
A true warrior doesn't let love hold him/her back from living life to the full, and after tracking the waistlines of more than 10,000 people American researchers found that while married men stay relatively slim, married women pile on the pounds as soon as they unpack from the honeymoon.
Different research tells us that people in couples live longer, but OAP warrior isn’t really a great look.

4. GET FRISKY
Husband and wife Drogo and Danaerys spent a LOT of time between the bearskins and quickies are out of the question for this fiery fantastical couple.
More sex = the most fun way to burn calories plus if you're showing your body off more in the bedroom the experts say that you will be more conscious of it in other aspects of your life.
Channel the characters' passionate clinches with piles of candles and lengthy, one-on-one sessions taking tips from the tantric texts.
Get frisky: Be inspired by Daenerys and Drogo and spend as much time as possible naked in front of a hot specimen
