  • Photographs were discovered in listing magazine TV Times' archive after being left there for nearly 50 years
  • Among them are candid photographs of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Cilla Black and Muhammad Ali 
  • Other celebrities snapped include Kate O'Mara, Tommy Cooper, Peter Sellers and Liza Minnelli
  • They have been unearthed and released ahead of their sale as fine art prints by the publication 
They were some of the best known faces on television.
But this is Woody Allen, Ronnie Barker, Kate O'Mara and Alfred Hitchcock as you've never seen them before. 
A set of intimate behind-the-scenes photographs has been released, giving a rare glimpse into TV's golden age.

The black and white photographs were discovered in a listing magazine TV Times' archive nearly 50 years after they were taken.
One shot shows Allen clutching a microphone with a bemused look on his face as he waits backstage during filming of The Woody Allen Show.
Another sees renowned film director Hitchcock peeping through two doors on the set of Coronation Street in Granada Studios in Manchester in 1964.
Barker was also captured, sticking his head round a door and wearing trademark thick-rimmed spectacles. 
Other celebrities snapped include boxing rivals Muhammed Ali and Henry Cooper, pictured shaking hands moments before an interview, and actress and singer Liza Minnelli in a dressing room at rehearsals for Live at the Hippodrome in 1966.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney are also pictured wearing suits and relaxing before one of their many TV appearances while a young Muhammed Ali is captured shaking hands with fellow boxer Henry Cooper. 
Female stars Liza Minnelli and Zsa Zsa Gabor are also seen in the collection of images, with the former admiring herself as she holds up a dress in her changing room. 
The candid photographs have been released by TV Times ahead of their sale as fine art prints.  
A spokesman for the company said: 'As well as producing exclusive portraits of some of the day’s stars, readers could also catch a glimpse of their favourite celebrities "out of character". 
'One particularly nice set shows the singer and actress Liza Minnelli backstage, during rehearsals for a TV production, Live at the Hippodrome in 1966.'
