America Ferrera describes difficult childhood in LA as she sizzles for photo shoot

'We grew up on the streets and got into minor trouble': America Ferrera describes difficult childhood in LA as she sizzles for photo shoot

America Ferrera is home again.
The 32-year-old beauty told the August/September issue of American Airlines magazine Nexos that she is happy to be back in her native Los Angeles to shoot the NBC sitcom Superstore. The actress had lived in New York City for eight years.
'I’m getting to experience Los Angeles in a whole new way,' said the star, who stunned on the cover in a white outfit.

America, whose family hails from Honduras, showed off her decolletage in a blue frock with a buttoned corset and plunging neckline.
Her make-up complimented her perfect olive skin with smokey eye shadow, lashings of mascara and peachy red lipstick.
With her tousled brunette tresses cascading over her shoulders, she looked every bit the exquisite sex siren.
In fact, it's had to see how ABC managed to downplay America's natural beauty when she was cast as Betty Suarez in hit show Ugly Betty that ran from 2006 until 2010.

The star was also seen in a white, scoop-neck T-shirt and jacket as she posed on a hotel balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica.
The celebrity, who was born in the San Fernando Valley, revealed that she is now seeing a side of Los Angeles that she hadn't really noticed when she grew up with her five sisters and a single mother.
'It was definitely a struggle,' Ferrera said of her early years.
'My mother had a really decent job working at a Hilton hotel where she was the director of the housekeeping department. So she had an executive position where she made a decent salary, but she had a single income and was raising six children.'
She added: 'I don’t know anybody who would let their 10-year-old on a bike and let them be gone for 9 hours, but that’s how we spent summers. We just grew up on the streets on our bikes with the neighborhood kids and got into minor trouble.'

Married to actor Ryan Piers Williams in 2011, the couple are discovering Southern California's wild side - by hiking in the mountains.
'My husband and I took a camping trip to Catalina Island for a weekend,' she shared. 'Catalina is so close and pretty accessible, but it’s not something I ever did in my 23 years of growing up in Los Angeles.
'I think it’s really fun to be able to go for a hike in the hills and then go to the beach.'

It seems that she and Ryan are also training for a mini triathlon - swimming, cycling and running - as she shared three Instagrams showing their Sunday training regime.
America even showed off her bruised knee after falling off her bike, saying 'No pain, no gain.'
Season two of Superstore kicks off with a special episode called Olympics on August 19 and resumes on September 22.
