Watch this Model capture 100 years of Russian beauty in 60 seconds - Elle

While all the episodes in Cut Video's "100 Years of Beauty" series are mesmerizing, their latest feature on Russia is particularly fascinating. It's like a beauty tour of the country's convoluted history—the trends at the beginning of the century are very traditionally feminine, but once the Stalinist era comes around, the look becomes more austere and minimalistic as the ideal of beauty becomes more about work productivity than sexual attraction.
The thaw of the '60s to '80s is reflected in the bold makeup and even bolder hairstyles that seek to emulate the West, as anything American was considered automatically cool in the cloistered country. And the beauty trend now is...well, let's just say it's kind of revolutionary.
