At age 24, Susannah was hospitalized as she struggled with a rare auto-immune condition which caused violent episodes and delusions.
She has now recovered after a miraculous proper diagnosis, and has gone on to chronicle the experience in the 2012 book Brain On Fire.
Charlize Theron was one of the producers of the film, which was directed by Gerard Barrett.

Both, of course, didn't miss out on the big night, with Charlize taking the stage beside Chloe during the premiere.
Calling it 'the role of a lifetime', Chloe said during a press conference at the film festival that she was compelled to make the movie after reading the story and meeting with Susannah.
'When I read the book, and when I read the script and then when I spoke to Susannah, it just felt pertinent to me that this movie was made for a multitude of reasons,' she said.
'It’s more than a movie about illness. It’s a story about labeling and mislabeling and misunderstanding and how far a misunderstanding can go.'
