Jeremy Vine and Tina Daheley announced as co-hosts of BBC's 'new look' weekly Crimewatch

Jeremy Vine and Tina Daheley have been revealed as co-hosts of BBC One's 'new look' Crimewatch.

The broadcaster, 51, and the BBC Breakfast anchor, 35, will front the new weekly edition of the show, starting with a series of episodes airing live on BBC One across September.

Jeremy, who enjoyed a hugely popular stint on last year's Strictly Come Dancing, told MailOnline in a statement released on Friday morning: 'I grew up watching Crimewatch.

'It is one of the most powerful programmes the BBC has ever broadcast with the power to change and save lives, and of course, to solve crimes.

'To present it is a great honour and with this new format Crimewatch will be even more at the heart of the BBC One schedule.'

Also replacing Kirsty Young is accomplished TV and radio journalist Tina, who currently presents the news and sport on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw.

Tina said: 'I also grew up watching Crimewatch and I feel very privileged to join a programme that’s allowed ordinary viewers to help bring criminals to justice and make our communities safer.

'Young people often suffer most from crime, so I’m especially keen to use my journalistic skills and experience engaging young audiences at Radio 1 to make sure they feel part of the new look show.'

The programme, which was launched in 1984, will enjoy a new format to keep it fresh and relevant when it returns to screens in the autumn.

For the first time ever it will be shown weekly, starting with a series of episodes airing live on BBC One across September.

In a further first for the enduring format, Crimewatch will take viewers to the heart of key appeals across the UK, as each episode broadcasts live from a mobile incident studio based near the scene of a key crime featured that week.

Viewers will also be able to respond to appeals immediately using the usual Crimewatch phoneline as well as via text and email.

The series will continue to feature the show’s well-known mix of appeals, dramatic reconstructions, CCTV footage and ‘wanted faces’ that have proven so vital to the Police Forces who turn to Crimewatch to catch the perpetrators of high-profile unsolved crimes.

Alison Kirkham, the BBC's Controller of Factual Commissioning, added: 'Crimewatch represents public service broadcasting at its best, and I’m delighted that broadcasters of the calibre of both Jeremy and Tina have joined the team.'

Last year, Jeremy became the seventh celebrity to be voted out of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing after landing in the dance-off alongside Jamelia and her partner Tristan MacManus.

Following its September 2016 run, Crimewatch will return to BBC One for its next block of episodes in early 2017.

She has been dazzling crowds with her showstopping moves on Strictly Come Dancing.

And after recording a high score of 38 on Saturday night’s show, Georgia May Foote decided to let loose and kick back as she headed to the after-party at Flamingo's Nightclub in Blackpool.

Accompanied by boyfriend Sean Ward, the 24-year-old amped up the sex factor and drew heaps of attention as she flaunted her stunning curves in a glittery number.

The short dress boasted a very daring cut-out neckline and a short hemline, which highlighted her slender, bronzed curves perfectly.

She plumped up her pout with a matted slick of rich brown lipstick and emphasised her gorgeous striking peepers with several coats of jet-black mascara and winged-eyeliner.

Her Coronation Street star beau cut a handsome figure in a tailored blazer, skintight trousers and a black high-neck jumper.

Walking hand-in-hand, the couple appeared to be in content spirits as they cosied up to one another after the live BBC show.

Other stars hitting the social scene included hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly as well as American singing sensation Anastacia.

Earlier on in the night, Georgia was praised for a ‘brilliant, brilliant dance’ alongside her partner Giovanni Pernice.

Judge Darcey Bussell gushed: ‘You are so graceful, you are gliding through this competition. You are going to go far.’

Bruno Tonioli told the pair their American Smooth dance to Whitney Houston's I Have Nothing was pure ballroom bliss.

The soap star was visibly emotional after receiving her score, which included tens from Bruno and Len Goodman.

BBC DJ Jeremy Vine has become the latest star to be given his marching orders on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Radio 2 presenter admitted that he was 'beginning to get nervous' that he would knock a good dancer out of the show.

Vine is the seventh celebrity to be voted out of the BBC One show after landing in the dance-off alongside Jamelia and her partner Tristan MacManus.

After Vine and partner Karen Clifton performed their Quickstep to Going Underground by The Jam again, the judges decided to save Jamelia for the fourth time.

Despite ending up with lowest scores on the leaderboard for many weeks, Vine managed to stay in the competition.

His exit means he has narrowly missed performing at the prestigious Blackpool Tower Ballroom next week.

In 2008, John Sergeant famously pulled out of the show after being kept in by fans week after week, despite not being able to dance very well.

Four times a lady: After Vine and partner Karen Clifton performed their Quickstep to Going Underground by The Jam again, the judges decided to save Jamelia for the fourth time

Commenting on whether he'd considered 'doing a John Sergeant and leaving', Vine said: 'I was beginning to get nervous that at some point I would knock out a good dancer, and I wasn't sure how I would feel about that to be perfectly honest.'

He stressed that week after week he worked hard to learn the dances properly, and to make sure fans could see him working hard.

'I feel, Seargie, as they call him, did a brilliant thing when he was on Strictly, but I don't think it's possible to do any more. I think the audience are now quite insightful about the actual dancing and they don't want to see someone larking about.

'I didn't ever lark about, I really wanted to learn to dance.'

Nerves: Vine admitted he worried that he was going to knock out a better dancer and considered following 2008 contender John Sergeant's lead and walking away from the show

Thanked his fans: He went on to point out that his loyal listeners had probably been behind him staying in for as long as he did

Sad farewell: Jeremy will be missed by his female co-stars, who rushed to plant kisses on his cheeks

Asked if he thinks his radio fan base contributed to him staying in longer, he said: 'It probably did.

'I was always conscious that being able to speak on the radio for two hours a day to a lot of people who watch Strictly was an advantage for me,' he explained.

'You know, different people came in with different things, and that was my thing, so I wouldn't underplay that. I think I was very lucky.'

He went on to point out that in parallel he had been 'moving his body for the wrong way for 50 years', and added: 'The two things probably cancelled each other out.'

Slip up: Meanwhile, Saturday proved a bad night for Jay McGuiness after he tripped during his routine with Aliona Vilani

Keep dancing! Jeremy vows to do just that and keep working on his dancefloor moves at home with his wife

He said he will definitely keep on dancing and has promised his wife they will waltz, or even tango, at the next wedding they attend.

The judges, notably Craig Revel Horwood, didn't hold back in their comments to him each week, with Revel Horwood commenting he 'looked like a stork struck by lightning' at one point.

Vine says he wasn't hurt by their comments, and says watching back some of the shows each week he actually enjoyed the comments the same way an audience member would.

His pick for the winner of the show at this stage is Call The Midwife's Helen George.

He said: 'It's very tough - it could almost be any of them. Just right now at this moment I'm going to say Helen George. But I would probably change that tomorrow. And I wouldn't rule out Anita Rani.'

Although it was the end of the road for Jeremy, the remaining celebrity contestants were relieved to see another week and make it to the prestigious Blackpool Tower Ballroom next week.

Peter Andre was delighted to have made it through, bringing him closer to the title than ever before.

While he didn't perform as well as he did on last week's show, Peter and his dance partner Janette Manrara scored a not-too-shabby 34 points.

The pair danced a beautiful Viennese Waltz to You're My World by Cilla Black and, this week he sweetly dedicated his routine to his children, as Junior and Princess joined their dad in rehearsals.

Delight! Peter Andre was ecstatic to have made it through for another week, bringing him closer to the title than ever before

'I hope I can make them proud, and get good comments from them as well as the judges,' he told the camera.

Darcey told him the dance was 'flowing with emotion and energy, and there were elements of Disney magic, obviously for your kids. I want you at Blackpool, and you're going to be at Blackpool.'

Len meanwhile explained after Peter's impressive Charleston last week that 'to get a 10 you have to do something really special and I can't say you did that. You had flow and musicality. It had a bit of American Smooth to me, I would have liked a little more in hold, but what I saw I enjoyed.'
