Meryl Streep brought up Ruth Negga's name when talking diversity in Hollywood during her now famous Golden Globe Awards acceptance speech on Sunday that irked President elect Donald Trump.

The 35-year-old Ethiopian actress, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her turn in the drama Loving, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday to discuss being single out during the ceremony.

'I’m still kind of floating from that,' Negga told Kimmel. 'I couldn’t believe it, it was incredibly surreal and just a complete dream come true.'

In her speech, Streep, 67, emphasized the importance of diversity, mentioning by name several of her colleagues that come from lands outside the US, near and far.

'The beautiful Ruth Negga was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and raised in Ireland, and she’s here nominated for playing a small-town girl from Virginia,' Streep said from the podium.

'Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts.'

Streep's message drew the ire of President-elect Donald Trump, the person whose actions fueled The Iron Lady star's plea for protection of the press.

He called Streep 'one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood,' a comment which gave Kimmel a laugh and left Negga mostly silent in disbelief.

'I'm told she's, like, not over-rated at all,' Jimmy said, unable to stop chuckling, after Negga professed her longtime appreciation for Streep.

'Unbelievable,' Negga said after a brief pause before dismissing the topic, not willing to give it any more attention.

Negga was nominated for a Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a motion picture in a drama for her role as a woman in an interracial marriage, battling anti-miscegenation laws in Virginia in the 1960s.

The Preacher star lost out to Isabelle Hupert, who won for her performance in the movie Elle.

Her nomination was announced Tuesday for the rising star award at BAFTA's EE British Academy Film Awards, which will air February 12.

She was feted with the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award at Sunday night's Emmy Awards.

While Dame Maggie Smith could not accept the award in person, the show's host Jimmy Kimmel drew huge attention to her absence as he stormed the stage saying: 'Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found.'

The 81-year-old actress, given the nod for her work in Downton Abbey, has now shown her wicked sense of humour as she hit back at the US funnyman in a hilarious acceptance speech.

Jimmy took aim at Maggie in his opening monologue due to the fact she has now-won four Emmys and been nominated for a whopping nine - yet never attended the ceremony, much to the chagrin of the host.

As Minnie Driver and Michael Weatherly presented the award to the star remotely, he stormed the stage, grabbed the award saying: 'Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found.'

Since Sunday night's award show, Maggie, who is famed for playing Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton, gave an incredibly witty response to Jimmy's raging speech regarding her absence.

In her remote acceptance speech she wrote: 'I was very astonished and pleased to win the award. I feel the Emmys have been overly generous to me. If Mr. Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will try and be on the next flight. Love, Old Maggie.'

'This, if you don't know, is she's been nominated nine times, won three times (prior to Sunday's win). How many times do you think she turned up to accept the award? That's right, no times. This time she had a Sunday ceramics class she couldn't get out of.

'When Maggie Smith finds out she's been awarded with an Emmy she has the same reaction we get when we get Bed Bath And Beyond coupons in the mail. Right in the garbage.

'I have a message for you lame Maggie Smith if you're bothering to watch. If you want an Emmy you better get on a plane and get your Dowager Countess ass over here.'

Sunday night's win was the actress' fourth, having won twice before for her performance as Violet Crawley in Masterpiece Theatre's costume drama, as well as taking home the outstanding lead actress in a miniseries or movie for My House In Umbria in 2003.

Kimmel pointed out to the audience that Smith had shown up to collect her two Academy Awards, for The Prime Of Miss Brodie and California Suite back in the 1970s, and also picked up her Tony Award in 1990 for the Broadway play Lettice and Lovage.

She splashed the cash for a new $6.5 million mansion in the Hollywood Hills back in June.

But it looks like her new neighbors were none too pleased about Kendall Jenner moving in.

The 20-year-old model looked absolutely fantastic in a lacy gold nightie top while making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in Hollywood on Wednesday.

On the programme, the 48-year-old chat show host revealed that he and the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star live right across the street from one another.

Jimmy revealed that the neighbors were not exactly happy about Kendall's presence as he said: 'Our neighbors were up in arms when you moved on the block.

'Oh there was this whole thing with emails that went on.'

Kimmel responded: 'Yeah, bad. I mean before you got there. You caused quite a ruckus. The neighbors seemed to blame me for this development somehow.'

Kendall explained: 'You know it is actually so strange, when I moved in my mom was not happy about me moving into a home by myself.

'And I was like "No, you know what, it's okay because Jimmy Kimmel lives right across the street. I don't know him but like maybe if anything goes down he'll save my life."'

She talked about how different it is since she only lived in a condo prior to her new home.

When asked if she was a slop or a neat freak, Kendall replied: 'Oh my God, I'm like OCD. I'm the biggest neat freak ever. I'm like cleaning with my maids when they come over to clean. I'm like with them scrubbing the floors.'

Kendall completed the look with a pair of black patent leather booties and accessorised with a purple choker.
