But now, the actress is already heading back to the small screen, where she got her first break, after a brief succession of tepidly successful movies.
And it seems Katherine's lack of marquee film roles might have to do something with her reputation as a 'difficult' actress, according to a new story from The Hollywood Reporter.

Part of the problem is the 34-year-old's struggles as a film star as of late - her most recent films, The Big Wedding and One For The Money, flopped at the box office and drew unanimous jeers from critics.
But sources tell THR that Katherine also has attitude problems and would cause 'desperately difficult situations' on set.
'She can cost you time every single day of shooting,' says a person who worked on Katherine's 2010 film Life As We Know It.
'Wardrobe issues, not getting out of the trailer, questioning the script every single day,' a source told the publication.
Examples include her 2008 proclamation that her breakout hit Knocked Up was 'sexist' and her blatant criticisms of the writing on Grey's Anatomy.
Katherine called her character Izzie's arc 'a ratings ploy' in 2008 and openly crowed that she was not going to pursue an Emmy for the show 'to maintain the integrity of the academy organization' (she had already won an Emmy for Grey's Anatomy in 2007).
And it appears that Katherine's mother Nancy, who is also her manager, might be contributing to her allegedly nasty attitude.
'I have never experienced anything like Nancy Heigl,' says another source. 'It's about the mouth. 'F-ck you. You are a f-cking liar.' ... Whatever you'd say, you were an idiot.'

A top producer at one network notes that the team behind a greenlit project considered Heigl but ended up passing because of her reputation.
'On many levels, she would have been perfect for the role, but all of us said, 'She's not worth it,'' they said.
But there are those who have worked with both mother and daughter and disagree, noting that the blunt style of Katherine and Nancy might just be a turn-off for political Hollywood types.
Denise Di Novi, who was an executive producer on Life As We Know It, stands by the 'hardworking and dedicated' actress and her mother.
'[They] are not shrinking violets. They're very straightforward and tell you what they think. That doesn't bother me,' Di Novi said.
And Anthony Burns, who directed Katherine on upcoming indie comedy North Of Hell, described the star as a 'cool' person who just likes 'honesty.'
'Hopefully the next people [Katherine] works with will get to know her like I did. ... She's just a good old girl who likes to speak her mind,' he said.
As for positive news, Katherine is now set to star in an upcoming CIA drama written by Alexi Hawley, who is co-exec producer on Fox's dark thriller The Following.
'She's really determined to put everything behind her,' says an insider close to her. 'The only way to do that is to go to work in film or television with good people and for those people to have good things to report back. And it's not an overnight thing.'
