Winning an Academy Award is the pinnacle of success for those in the film industry and so it's perhaps no surprise that many have been overcome with emotion in their moment of triumph.

While most over the decades have been able to accept their Oscars with dignity, grace and a stiff upper lip, others have not been able to hold back the tears.

Gwyneth Paltrow is arguably the most famous Oscar cry baby as she sobbed through her acceptance speech when she won Best Actress for Shakespeare In Love in 1999.

She was already struggling to hold back the tears as stepped on to the stage to collect her trophy from Jack Nicholson but managed to hold it together as she thanked the cast and crew she'd worked with.

But when she started to thank her family, she couldn't stop crying with her voice becoming squeaky and at times inaudible.

It was thanking her family that reduced Angelina Jolie to tears too when she accepted her Oscar for best supporting actress in Girl Interrupted in 2000.

Her voice broke as she sang the praises of her brother, James, mother Marcheline Bertrand, who died in 2007, and her father, actor Jon Voight - with whom she has since had a turbulent relationship.

Natalie Portman can be forgiven for her tears as she won best actress in Black Swan in 2011 as she was pregnant at the time and at the mercy of her hormones.

She sniffed her way through an otherwise eloquent acceptance speech with tears in her eyes as she thanked her husband Benjamin Millepied for giving her the greatest role of all as a mother.

Octavia Spencer was given a standing ovation as she accepted her gong in 2012 for The Help and the reaction meant she struggled to speak though most of her speech.

'I'm sorry, I'm freaking out!' she wept.

Anne Hathaway maintained her composure when she made her acceptance speech in 2013 when she won for her role in Les Miserables but it all caught up with her backstage when she burst into tears at the photocall clutching her gold statue.

Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron and Hilary Swank are other notable A-listers who wept as they won their Oscars.

But it's not just the women who have struggled to hold back the tears.

Ben Affleck struggled to contain his emotions as Argo - which he directed, produced and starred in -won the Best Picture Oscar in 2013.

He became emotional as he thanked his wife - actress Jennifer Garner - for working hard to make their marriage last and his voice broke as he dedicated the award to their children Violet, Samuel and Seraphina.

So as the 87th Academy Awards takes place this Sunday evening, let's hope the nominees have all packed their hankies and practiced their speeches.

She signed with IMG Models last month, and Ireland Baldwin kicked off her modeling career with a sizzling swimsuit spread on Thursday.

The 17-year-old daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger showcased her statuesque figure in a variety of candy-coloured bikinis while aboard an 80-foot yacht on the Hudson River.

The platinum blonde even braved New York's chilly 40-degree temperatures while looking every bit the pro for her first big shoot the New York Post.

Ireland flaunted her long pins and ample curves in everything from a sunny yellow two-piece, red halter bikini, and a beige snakeskin one-piece.

The six-foot-two stunner is clearly the fashion world's latest 'It Girl' with upcoming features in W magazine and Vanity Fair.

'Shooting with the famous Patrick DeMarchelier today! I'm incredibly blessed,' Baldwin tweeted on Thursday to her 30,000 followers.

Before now, Ireland was best remembered in the media as 'a thoughtless little pig' courtesy of her famous father's furious 2007 phone rant.

It's ironic that she chose to make her debut in the New York Post since the 30 Rock funnyman has had a notoriously torrid relationship with the publication.

However she and Alec 'text and talk on the phone all the time' now, and they celebrated his 55th birthday together after his Broadway play, Orphans, last Monday.

'You know, he has his own agenda and I have my own,' said the Amazon beauty.

'I think he's very outspoken and he has his opinions, and he's him and I'm me, and I know he's done things that he regrets himself and that he's sorry for, but you know, the past is the past.'

She also tells the Post that her relationship with her dad is fine and that they 'text and talk on the phone all the time.'

However, Ireland has yet to introduce her father to her new boyfriend, stand-up paddle boarder Slater Trout, whom she met on Instagram.

Baldwin is looking forward to being a 'badass older sister' to Alec's daughter with new wife Hilaria Thomas, who's due this summer.

She said, 'It’s going to be fun, I think, for her to have that somewhat kind of badass older sister who will take you to your first concert and give you a fake ID and all that. I always wished I had that when I was younger.'

The newly-signed model then added: 'I’m going to be much, much older than her. I’ve learned from my youth and I want her to not make the same mistakes. But she will. We all do.'

'My mom’s very happy she can finally give me tips,' Baldwin told People magazine in February. 'She’s always there, so she’ll stand in the back and say, "Turn your head this way, or do this!"'

Ireland, who plans on attending college, eventually wants to transition from modeling to acting like Basinger in the hopes of becoming 'the next Tina Fey.'

'Rather than getting involved with different projects and films that I’m not ready for and starting off on the wrong foot, I want to work my way up.'

Alec and Kim divorced in 2002 after nearly a decade together.

He'll next star in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine - due out July 26 - with Cate Blanchette, Louis CK, Peter Sarsgaard, and Sally Hawkins.

Basinger will next appear in the romantic drama Third Person alongside James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, and Liam Neeson.

She was recently signed on by two of America's most prestigious modeling agencies.

And Ireland Baldwin looks set to become a star of the fashion world if new pictures are anything to go by.

At just 17 years old, Ireland's poses might be considered by some as slightly questionable, but they mean there's no doubt the pretty blonde is destined for a modelling career.

In the Tumblr shot, Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's daughter can be seen wearing a bikini with her back to the camera, her head turned to the side.

The other snap is a self-portrait, and shows the young model wearing pink Nike hot pants and a black Nike sports top as she takes the picture with her cellphone.

She sports a washboard-flat stomach as she flips her head to one side while standing in a bathroom.

As the daughter of two of the most attractive stars in Hollywood, it’s no surprise that Ireland has been snapped up by two top modeling agencies.

She further proved the point by sharing some informal self-portraits on Twitter.

Bare-faced and natural in one, made-up with rollers in another, Ireland is certainly a model comfortable in her looks - and one who doesn’t take herself too seriously either.

With the former photo, Ireland jokingly wrote, ‘I look like I'm 4 with no makeup and these braids’.

But in the other, she captioned the image with ‘Weeee’ to relay her feeling of fun.

Ireland is also a fan of tweeting what she eats and, after one long Flamenco class, tucked into a box of cereal as a post-workout snack.

An avid tweeter, Ireland uses the platform to share moments from her life, opinions and thoughts all with a humorous spin.

Her jokey nature is unsurprising considering her father Alec is the much-loved star of 30 Rock and holds the record for guest-hosting Saturday Night Live.

And as she’s also inherited her mother’s world famous looks, the young model is set to become as well known a face as her famous parents.

Earlier this month, Ireland announced on Twitter that she had signed to IMG Models, the same New York agency that has Kate Moss, Karlie Kloss and Miranda Kerr on its books.

‘Officially working for @TwoManagement and @IMGmodels! I'm blessed, happy, and ready to WEEEEERK,’ she tweeted from LA, where she currently resides.

Ireland has also signed to Two Management, a modelling agency based in her hometown.

And the 17-year-old proved the point by sharing some informal self-portraits on Twitter.
