The tensions in the Bake Off tent could rival that of an election campaign.

So it is perhaps only fitting that Samantha Cameron and Ed Balls will do battle for a special edition of the hit baking show.

The Tory Prime Minister’s wife and former Labour shadow chancellor will be up against each other to produce show stopping cakes, biscuits and breads in front of judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.

Domestic goddess: Geri Horner, who loves to share photos of her baking on her Instagram, will be showing off her skills

They will be joined by 14 other celebrities, including former Spice Girl Geri Horner and WAG Louise Redknapp, filmed for the Sports Relief charity edition of the BBC One show.

Mrs Cameron, 44, is known to be a fan of baking, having deployed her skills in the Downing Street kitchen for Comic Relief in 2013, where she sported a striking red wig. She is also believed to enjoy watching the Great British Bake Off.

She has previously said how much she enjoys creating cakes to help raise money for charity stating: 'Baking is such a brilliant and easy way to raise money.'

However she will face stiff competition from Mr Balls who is known to be passionate about food and also enjoys baking for his children.

Speaking about his abilities in the kitchen, he said in a 2012 interview with the New Statesman, he said: ‘My mum taught me. She’s a good cook and always keen to try new things. And I’ve been practising ever since.

‘Children’s birthday cakes are a bit of a speciality. I do a good pirate ship but "a Coke can with straw" proved to be an ask too far…'

Presenter Sue Perkins will be noticeably absent from the four-part series, which will air to coincide with Sports Relief in March next year.

Her co-star Mel Giedroyc will present one of the hour-long episodes, with Jennifer Saunders, Sarah Millican, Ed Byrne fronting the others.

Other famous faces entering the Bake Off tent in the hope of winning the public’s approval include comedian Jason Manford, BBC journalist John Simpson, Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh and pop star Will Young.

They will be joined by actor and comedian Ade Edmondson, actress Alison Steadman, footballers Chris Kamara, David James and Jermaine Jenas, EastEnders actress Maddy Hill, comedian and actress Morgana Robinson, and TV presenter Victoria Coren-Mitchell.

The series will also follow presenter Clare Balding as she visits a number of Comic Relief projects in Kenya and Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis, who visits a UK project.

Sport Relief is on from Friday March 18 to Sunday March 20.

She has spent the past few months travelling the country, sharing her husband’s punishing Election schedule.

So there’s one question everyone is asking: just how did Samantha Cameron find the time to get this beach-ready?

The 44-year-old showed off her slim, toned figure as she spent a few days unwinding on the Spanish party island of Ibiza.

She was spotted at the public Cala Nova Beach, an upmarket resort on the south east of the island – a place known for its unspoilt landscape, golden sands and azure seas.

Dressed in a classic black bikini – believed to be by British lingerie brand Pour Moi? – and carrying a matching clutch, she visited the beachside bar, which is open to all holidaymakers, with one of her children looking for ice cream.

As well as showing off her stylish side, Mrs Cameron also proved she is somewhat frugal. The bikini top – thought to be from the brand’s best-selling Azure line – costs £25, while the bottoms are priced £16.

During the Election, she was seen by Tory strategists as the party’s secret weapon, with some saying she has brought the same glamour to Downing Street that Jackie Kennedy did to JFK’s White House in the early 1960s.

The photos are sure to make husband David a little wistful – far from being able ‘chillax’ himself, the Prime Minister is on a whistlestop tour of Europe in his efforts to reform the EU.

Marlene Reader, 67, a retired nurse from Middlesbrough, who goes to Ibiza twice a year with her family, said: ‘We saw Sam on the beach and she definitely looked better in the flesh.

‘She looked very pretty and natural – a normal mum. She was building sandcastles with her children. But there was a security presence every few feet. They went to the little bar – we were surprised they ate at such a small place.’

Ibiza – dubbed the dance capital of the world – has become a favourite of the Camerons, who have spent several summers there.

The trip is a well-earned break for Mrs Cameron, who has spent the past few months doing everything from cuddling babies in Lancashire to supporting social justice projects in Glasgow.

... Even more fabulous four years on

Most women facing their first beach break after having a new baby would reach for a sarong. But not Samantha Cameron.

During a family trip to Ibiza in May 2011 – just nine months after giving birth to her daughter Florence – the Prime Minister’s wife was proudly showing off her flat stomach and toned legs.

Then Mrs Cameron hired celebrity trainer Matt Roberts to help her regain her pre-pregnancy figure – leading to speculation she has done the same for this year’s General Election campaign.

Four years ago, she looked fresh-faced and energetic as she lapped up the sunshine while her husband entertained the couple’s older children, Nancy and Elwen.

The family were staying with friends in a private villa for the half-term break.
