Speaking to Hunger editor Holly Fraser, Taylor Swift's pal said: 'The challenges I think young musicians face is, just, it's hard to stay with your vision. Everybody has an opinion. Everybody has a way that they see your career should go.'
She added: 'Sometimes you just gotta stick with your gut, stick with your instinct and stick with your personal vision because at the end of the day you gotta live with it.'
Zendaya, an actress, singer, producer and designer was recently named as one of Time magazine's 30 most influential teenagers alongside the likes of Malala Yousafzei, Malia Obama, Jaden Smith and Amandla Stenberg.
Hunger magazine snapped Zendaya up after being impressed by her 'dignified, outspoken and intelligent nature', which they say has set her apart from her contemporaries and made her the perfect celebrity to front their Autumn/Winter issue, featuring on four limited edition covers.

But despite the high praise and numerous accolades, Zendaya approaches the role model tag with caution, telling the publication: 'I don't think it's important to be a role model because if you're a role model you're playing a role, pretending to be someone, and I don't think any artist should be pretending to be anyone but themselves.'
She continued: 'Nobody's stupid - if you're trying to be something that you are not, people will realise at some point that you are not being authentic to who you are. It eats you up inside.
'For me, I try not to be a role model, I just, in the words of Tupac Shakur, try to be a real model, which means you're just being yourself and trying to be the best you can be. I think in that way of doing your best, you kind of inspire others to be the best them.'
Asked who inspires her she reveals she looks to Vivienne Westwood: 'I'm inspired by her just because, you know, her stuff is different. I think she's never trying to be different. It's just effortless to her and I can connect to.'

In February this year, Zendaya slammed Giuliana Rancic after the Fashion Police host joked the singer might smell of weed, just because she had her hair in dreadlocks.
The fashion critic said, of Zendaya's appearance at the Academy Awards: 'I feel like she smells smells like patchouli oil… or maybe weed.'
The teen, who was 18 at the time, reacted furiously on Twitter, accusing the E! anchor of being 'ignorant, disrespectful and outrageously offensive'.
'There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful,' she wrote. 'Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect.
'To say that an 18-year-old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or “weed” is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive. I don’t usually feel the need to respond to negative things but certain remarks cannot go unchecked.'

Meanwhile Zendaya hit headlines earlier this month when she forced Los Angeles-based fashion magazine Modeliste to pull its November issue because it featured dramatically retouched photos of her body.
Modeliste never intended to publish the manipulated images after profusely apologising to Zendaya.
And while over-the-top photo editing is far too common in the magazine industry, the teen star made it a point to speak out against the images as soon as she saw them.
Zendaya, whose full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, took to Instagram to post a side-by-side image of the retouched and unedited versions of one photo from the shoot to make a statement about the impossible beauty standards inflicted on women.
'Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated,' she wrote. 'These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have.
Despite the praise, Zendaya approaches the role model tag with caution, telling the publication: 'I don't think it's important to be a role model because if you're a role model you're playing a role, pretending to be someone'

Ellie Goulding insists her provocative outfits are a choice ~ Hunger magazine

'You don't have to dress like a skank to be a successful singer': Ellie Goulding insists her provocative outfits are a choice

|
She's been hitting headlines over the past few months with the provocative outfits she has been wearing.
But now Ellie Goulding has opened up about the reasons behind her sense of style, insisting that she chooses to wear what she does to look good, and not to get ahead in the music industry.
Ellie told Hunger magazine: 'I don't have anything against being sexy. If a popstar exposes herself or doesn't wear a lot, it doesn't really bother me the way it bothers other people.

I feel like people are less fussed about it in America, whereas in the UK people are a little more reserved. But if someone's making good music, I don't care about anyone else.
'Some of the most successful girls don't portray themselves as sex symbols. Lorde is doing exceptionally well - she's been number one in America for ages and she doesn't dress like a skank. Lily Allen is doing really well and she doesn't dress provocatively. If you make good music, then that's all you need.'
Ellie also said her changing sense of style is down to the amount of confidence she has gained over the past few years.

She said: 'I think I feel more confident with how I look and my body in general. I've always exercised and eaten fairly well, and I've given up eating meat and fish. I feel like I've matured - I can wear what I want now and be confident.

'All the awkwardness of my teenage years and early twenties has passed. You just become comfortable and everything falls into place.'
The 27-year-old singer was also quick to dismiss rumours that she is a boring celebrity, insisting that she just keeps the juicier details of her life out of the public eye.
She said: 'Everyone thinks that I'm a very sensible person that I don't do anything naughty. They couldn't be more wrong. Actually, I just keep things out of the press.
'I just don't want anything to detract from my music. I'm quite cool with what people know at the moment. They've got nothing to judge me on apart from my music - and that's the way I like it.'
Over the past few years, Ellie has enjoyed a huge boost in success - culminating on winning the Woman of the Year gong at the recent BRIT Awards.
But Ellie admitted that with the career boost comes a rise in her celebrity status - an aspect of her job she doesn't enjoy as much.
She said: 'My life has become a lot crazier in the last year. I think people definitely recognise me a lot more now and that affects me. I actually get quite freaked out when people stare at me or start taking pictures - I'll never get used to that. I'd enjoy being slightly more anonymous again.
'My life has become so different to how it was five years ago - when I'd finished university and was living by myself in a little flat in Hammersmith - that it's hard to remember what "normal" is.'
The full interview with Ellie appears in Issue 06 of Hunger magazine.

Nude photos of Abbey Crouch as she poses in just a pair of heels for incredible new shoot

No one's looking at the shoes! Abbey Crouch dares to bare as she poses in just a pair of heels for incredible new shoot

|

When it comes to showing off her model figure, Abbey Crouch is most definitely not shy.
But the 27-year-old WAG has taken her posing to new limits in a spread for HUNGER magazine, in which she appears entirely naked.
The mother-of-one smoulders in the pictures, wearing nothing apart from the season's hottest heels as she is shot by Rankin.
Her most daring shoot to date: Abbey Crouch bares all as she poses in just a pair of heels for a new shoot in HUNGER magazine

In the sexiest frame of the 10-page black and white fashion editorial, Abbey is seen raising her arms above her head to draw attention to her toned washboard stomach and enviably long legs.
In another, Abbey crouches down with her head on her knees as she grips onto her heels.
A third frame shows Abbey's natural beauty, with the model looking sunkissed with tousled hair as she pouts for the camera.

The pictures of Abbey appear in HUNGER's Girls, Girls, Girls issue, which also features Gemma Arterton, Rita Ora and Crystal Renn.
And Abbey is clearly thrilled with the finished shots from the campaign, tweeting earlier this week: 'LOVE my pictures @rankinphoto @HungerMagazine.'
While Abbey recently caused concern with her incredibly slender frame, the stunning blonde's gamine figure works well in the stripped back magazine shots,
And despite being a tiny size 6, Abbey has always insisted she's happy with the way she looks, and doesn't restrict her food intake to maintain her slim appearance.
She said previously: 'Everyone is going on about my weight and I hate it. I'm happy with the way I look.
'I don't have the exercise machines at home and all those weird things I keep reading about. I'm not on some weird diet.'
See the full shoot in HUNGER Issue 4 out now.
