The 21-year-old has taken part in a dreamy new shoot for Vs. Magazine which sees the The Runaways actress model a number of gowns in a hotel room.
And in the accompanying interview, Dakota discusses growing up onscreen, settling into an adult career and what it's like being a woman in Hollywood.

The interview appears in the Dreams issue of the magazine, which also features Rosie Huntington-Whitley and Elizabeth Olsen.
Talking about shedding her image as a child star, she says: 'One thing that's difficult about starting so young is that some people perceive me at six, some perceive me at 12, some perceive me at 17, and some people perceive me as I am now.'

Dakota Fanning, Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley lead an all-star cast of 'inspirational' cover girls for the latest issue of Vs. Magazine

Dakota Fanning, Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley lead an all-star cast of 'inspirational' cover girls for the latest issue of Vs. Magazine

Vs. Magazine has tapped six of Hollywood’s hottest young stars to front its spring/summer 2015 Dreams issue, which focuses on inspiring a generation of ambitious and talented young women.
Dakota Fanning, Zoe Kravitz, Abbey Lee, Elizabeth Olsen, Freida Pinto and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley each star on their own unique covers, which were shot by six different photographers.
The accomplished women showcased in the magazine's latest edition were chosen because they 'aspire as much as they inspire' and 'have enough talent and beauty to make anyone envious'.

Each of the black and white cover shots features touches of blue and highlights the individual cover star's beauty.
Inside the issue, the women discuss their personal lives as well as the struggles they have faced throughout their acting careers.
For her striking cover, Zoe was photographed by Jonas Bresnan and captured holding a baby wolf and staring directing into the camera lens.
The 26-year-old was shot wearing a Georg Jensen necklace, a Balenciaga coat and a septum ring.

Beyond her cover, the actress candidly discussed issues with race in Hollywood castings.
I've been told by directors: 'We want something a little more all American,' and I'm like: 'M***********r I was born in America.'
Zoe Kravitz
'I’ve been told by directors: "We’re not going urban. We want something a little more all American," and I’m like: "M***********r I was born in America, what are you talking about?"' she told Vs.
While Zoe looked straight ahead, Dakota, who was photographed by Vincent Peters, was depicted looking demurely into the distance for her respective cover.
The 20-year-old admitted that she often finds herself being typecast after working as an actress for more than a decade.
'People all have different conceptions of who I am, and what I look like, and what kind of movies I make,' she said. 'One thing that’s difficult about starting so young is that some people perceive me at six, some perceive me at 12, some perceive me at 17, and some people perceive me as I am now.'

She continued, 'But that’s life. I’ve changed, and as you get older the kinds of films you do change, and I’m comfortable with that. I know this is something I want to do for the rest of my life. Everyone will catch up eventually.'
Freida, who wore Guess for her cover shoot, was shot by Bruno Dayan. The photographer captured the 30-year-old touching her wet hair as she looked over her shoulder.
For her individual cover shoot, Elizabeth modeled a Bottega Veneta dress.
Hunter & Gatti photographed the 25-year-old while she was laying down and running her fingers through her hair.
Meanwhile, models turned actresses Rosie, 27, and Abbey, 27, who both star in upcoming thriller Mad Max: Fury Road alongside Zoe, were shot by Guy Aroch and Ellen von Unwerth, respectively.
An unadorned Rosie wore a simple silk tunic from Malene Birger, while Abbey donned a pleated dress by Boss. Her curled coif, septum piercing and ring covered hands made her ornate cover stand out from the rest.
The Vs. Dreams covers hit newsstands on February 12.

Game Of Thrones Khaleesi played by Emilia Clarke transforms into vixen for edgy Vs. Magazine shoot

Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke leaves Khaleesi on the cutting room floor as she transforms into vixen for edgy Vs. Magazine shoot

|
She may be as fierce as she is in Game Of Thrones, but Emilia Clarke has left her dragons behind in a stunning new photo shoot.
In the emotive magazine spread, the 26-year-old pieces together who exactly she is through fashion while on a dreamlike road trip.
While looking amazing in the Vs. Magazine feature, the British actress has opened up about her own insecurities.
Who's that girl: Emilia Clarke shines in a new photo shoot for Vs. Magazine
Who's that girl: Emilia Clarke shines in a new photo shoot for Vs. Magazine
The Game Of Thrones star told the magazine she avoids reading things about herself: 'If you come out of the doctor’s and they tell you that you have an ailment, never Google it. I believe searching yourself comes under the same bracket. It will only end in tears.'
While the star plays someone who is tough enough to deal with dragons, the British star says she is not beyond have a cry at harsh criticism.
'Playing feisty hard-hitting women gives me a chance to be everything I’m not. No, I’m not fishing for compliments.'
Natural beauty: Most people are used to seeing the 26-year-old as a blonde as she is in Game Of Thrones, but she is naturally brunette

Speaking of compliments, the actress - who plays a Khaleesi named Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones - was just named number one in AskMen.com's Top 99 Most Desirable Women on 2014 that saw more than one million votes.
And it is not hard to see why in the new Vs. shoot, which taking inspiration from the amnesia movie Momento, the star appears to be on the run through while trying to work out her identity the back streets of Los Angeles and its desert outskirts.
Playfully referencing the fact she has shed the platinum blonde of the character, the natural brunette makes her escape by wearing a host of sexy ensembles and a very bad blonde wig.

In the massive spread, Emilia at one point does try to channel Marilyn Monroe wearing the short platinum wig and pouting in Polaroids.
In the shoot, the stunner makes the transition from cocktail dresses to edgy leather ensembles seamlessly, and is not doubt hoping she will able to do the same thing in her acting.
This is because Emilia will soon leave her Mother of Dragons character behind briefly to play the iconic Sarah Connor from Terminator.

Emilia said: 'I have an older brother. I definitely watched it as I was growing up. The first time I was way too young, maybe eight or nine.
'But then when I watched it again, I remember being engrossed in her story and thinking it’s very much about the girl.'
A chance to to be an action star has also got the British beauty excited.
'I love playing a character that has a skill set that I don’t have, so I have to learn.
'I think this is one of the best things about being an actress - to come away with so much more knowledge of various aspects of different careers.
'I’m going to be awesome at wielding weapons, driving fast cars and generally being bad-ass. I’ll be hanging out with Terminators and whatnots, introducing them to flat whites and generally chilling,' she said jokingly.
While many fear that Terminator has lost its way since the departure of popular director James Cameron, Emilia is more that confident Terminator: Genesis will be great.
'I’m  not worried because Megan and David Ellison, who have bought the rights, are geniuses. Alan Taylor is directing Terminator: Genesis and he’s my man. He was with me throughout Game of Thrones series 1 and 2 and so the rapport is already there.

'It doesn’t seem big and scary. It seems exciting.'
Emilia has certainly come a long way from the terrible advertising commercials that she could not land at 19.
'There was this one for a deodorant and they were going to play a song that I had to dance to. It was a particularly sordid song, and I looked around the room as I walked in and thought, ''Am I being pranked?'''

Touching on the subject in the Vs. Magazine interview conducted by shoe designer Brian Atwood, the single mother-of-one said: 'For the most part I’ve always been a blonde.
'But in the last four or five months, my hair has been every shade of the rainbow.'
'There's a high maintenance to my having dark hair, when the blonde roots start coming in it looks like I'm balding'
Changing her hairstyle has a useful purpose though, as it can help her to get into character - 'you look like what you imagine in your head,' she explained.
In the Western Sweetwater, which will premiere on Thursday night at the Sundance Film Festival, Miss Jones plays a red-haired former prostitute seeking revenge on the rancher who killed her husband.

'It was a really cool role, like being a female Clint Eastwood in Pale Rider.'
The Los Angeles-based actress, who was pictured for the first time as a brunette last November, revealed that the colour change was for a project but teased: 'I can’t tell you which, yet.’
Talking about the chestnut hue, the natural blonde, added: 'There’s a high maintenance to my having dark hair: when the blonde roots start coming in it looks like I’m balding or graying or something - not cute!'
She told ABC News that her one-year-old son Xander also prefers her as a blonde and when he looks at photographs of her with light tresses he says, 'Mama'.

Discussing her character's evolution over the years she said: 'The most interesting thing to me is the fans’ reaction to her evolution because I remember being on the streets of New York in the first season or two and people would come up to me and be like, ''Oh my god, it’s you! Oh my god, poor Betty.''
'People wanted to hug me, they felt so bad for her. A couple of weeks ago, I was waiting at a jewelry store to get a clasp fixed and this other customer was glaring at me. Finally I was like, ''Yes?'' and she goes, ''I just want you to know, I hate your character.''
Asked if there was anything she wouldn't do in her career Miss Jones told Mr Atwood that she would never appear in liquor, tobacco or fried chicken adverts.
'I’m a mom now... so I’m conscious of being a different kind of role model,' she said.
Kate Boswoth, Eva Herzigova and Irina Shayk also feature in the upcoming issue of Vs. Magazine.
