It is the first major awards show of the season.
And David O. Russell's con-artist caper American Hustle took the lead with three awards on Sunday night, at the Golden Globes held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Taking the top prize of the night was 12 Years A Slave, named Best Drama, while Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey won in the categories for Best Actress and Best Actor respectively.

'I think it was 47 years ago that the Hollywood Foreign Press gave me an award for Promising Newcomer,' she said before strangely staying silent.

'I have to thank the fans for this show,' Vince said, before asking Aaron Paul to the stage, who added: 'Yeah b****, thank you' in the voice of his character Jesse Pinkman.
Rapper Diddy stole the show as composer Alex Ebert won for All Is Lost.

Jon Voight was the surprise winner for the TV detective series Ray Donovan beating Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul and Rob Lowe from Behind the Candelabra.
‘I’m very grateful to Hollywood Foreign Press for this. I am truly humbled to be among my talented peers. Working with the cast of Ray Donovan is an endless joy, and I’m very grateful for that,’ he said.
Another surprise came when Amy Adams beat Meryl Streep in the category for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for American Hustle.

Once the joke was over however, the pair then gave away the award for Best Actress in a TV Drama, which went to Robin Wright for House of Cards.

Jared Leto was named Best Supporting Actor for his role as a transvestite in high heels in the film for the film Dallas Buyers Club.
Leto revealed that to prepare for the role he endured 'a fully body wax'.
‘I’d like this opportunity to clear up a few things,’ the 42-year-old said while accepting his prestigious award.
‘I did not ever use any prosthetics in this film. That tiny little Brazilian bubble butt was all mine.’
The Beverly Hilton ballroom broke out into laughter as Leto – who wore his rock star long locks pulled into a messy bun for the formal appearance – talked of his physical transformation for the role of Rayon.
'It was a very transformative role, I had to do a lot of things to prepare. One of the things I did was wax my entire body including my eyebrows,' he shared.
'I'm just fortunate that it wasn't a period piece so I didn't have to do a full Brazilian [wax].
'Ladies, you know what I'm talking about though…and so do some of you men, I think.'
Emma Thompson put on her best drunken performance next, as she awarded Spike Jonze with the prize of Best Screenplay for Her.

Best Actor in a TV comedy went to former Saturday Night Live performer Andy Samberg for the TV series Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Orlando Bloom and Zoe Saldana presented the award for Best Foreign Language film, which went to the Italian movie The Great Beauty.
Actor in a TV Miniseries or Movie went to Michael Douglas for Behind the Candelabra and was presented by Jimmy Fallon and Melissa McCarthy.

Next up, Diane Keaton gave a very lengthy speech about Woody Allen, including a tribute in song.
Ben Affleck presented the award for Best Director which went to Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity.
The Mexican film director made the audience laugh as he revealed a lost in translation moment between himself and the film's leading lady Sandra Bullock.
'She though I said "Sandra I'm going to give you herpes," when I really said "Sandra I am going to give you an ear piece," it's a true story.'

‘Wow this is an incredible, incredible honour,' Leo began, before making fun of the fact the category for his dramatic performance was put into a musical or comedy.
‘I never would have guessed for winning a movie in a comedy, so I would like to thank my fellow comedians in the category, Christian Bale, Oscar Isaac and Joaquin Phoenix,’ before getting serious with a tribute to Martin Scorsese.
Cate Blanchett was named Best Actress in a Drama, and joked to the audience that she had been drinking vodka throughout the ceremony.

Matthew McConaughey was the big shock winner of the best acting Golden Globe for his role in the film Dallas Buyers Club beating Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Tom Hanks and Robert Redford.
He said: ‘This was unexpected, but graciously accepted. Respect to the nominees, Mr. Redford, Mr. Hanks, Chiwetel. Idris. It's great company to be in. This film, Ron's story, was an underdog.
'For 20 years it was an underdog; turned down 86 times; nobody wanted to put up money for it. We got the right people together five years ago, stuck to it, put some skin in the game, and here it is.
'It starts with the writers, producer Jean-Marc Valee came on, the actors - Jared Leto, Jennifer Garner. It got passed on so many times; really glad it got passed on so many times or it wouldn't have come to me.

Johnny Depp took to the stage to hand out the biggest award of the night - Best Drama.
The award went to 12 Years A Slave, which was accepted by the director Steve McQueen.

It had been shut out of every category all night but took home the top prize.
The film was backed by London's Film 4 and Brad Pitt's. Company Plan B.
Steve MncQueen thanked Pitt saying it would not have been made without him.

The awards bash recognizes excellence in television, as well as film, from 2013.
The winners of the coveted golden gongs are decided by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Taking on hosting duties for the second time are comedy duo Amy Poehler, 42, and Tina Fey, 43.

‘There are so many stars in the room tonight, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed,’ Tina Fey.
The funny ladies promised more than 50 outfit changes on the night, and started off in two tight-fitting floor-length gowns.
Keeping their quips fun rather than mean, Tina Fey began by poking fun at Bradley Cooper, saying: ‘The original title of American Hustle was Explosion at the Wig Factory.’

Amy then turned the attention to legendary director Martin Scorsese, who she revealed was nominated for the ‘tiniest man with the biggest pair of glasses.’
The biggest laugh came when the pair described Gravity as a film about George Clooney preferring to go to space and die, than spend the rest of his life with a ‘woman of his own age.’
Tina made the likes of Julia Roberts laugh as she compared Matthew McConaughey’s 45lb loss for The Dallas Buyers Club as ‘what actresses in Hollywood call preparing for a movie’.
