Cheryl admitted: 'I was a general worrier. I would worry about the world if I saw something on the news. I was quite a depressed teenager.'
Asked about her strife as a young person, she said: 'I grew up with nothing. Life isn't perfect. It isn't the Instagram photos and what you see on social media. You are going to have hardship.
On her advice for herself, she added: 'I would have told myself to relax and not to worry so much, to talk about how you're feeling. Whatever you're going through, you will get through it.'
Lauding the former Girls Aloud singer with compliments, Esther said: 'This is why [Cheryl] is such a wonderful ambassador for young people.
'People think she's rich, beautiful and she has everything - but it's the honesty,' Esther said.

Cheryl said that she speaks to people 'daily' on her social media feeds about their problems.
Hinting at her maternal side, Cheryl added: 'I've spoken to people and helped them through it. It breaks my heart to think that you're in so much pain you would turn to harming yourself as a release. It's something I've never dealt with myself.'
Tweeting ahead of the show, Cheryl indicated the reason for her visit, teasing her fans with a simple comment saying: 'See you soon'
It was in response to an announcement from The One Show's Official Twitter page, which said: 'TONIGHT! Esther Rantzen & @CherylOfficial talk about #Childline'
Confirming the line-up, it also continued: '@chrishoy has a new book, and @RebeccaFMusic plays live! 7pm @BBCOne'

Her appearance was announced during a teaser for the BBC talkshow on Tuesday, naturally sending her fans overboard with excitement.
The Fight For This Love hitmaker has previously remained coy about her alleged pregnancy despite showing off a rounded stomach and deliberately dodging photocalls at public events.
She has also largely been keeping out of the spotlight since the rumours came to light; further adding fuel to the file when she pulled out of an appearance at the Pride Of Britain Awards on Monday.
The star announced her absence on Twitter by sharing her disappointment with fans.
She said: 'Gutted I couldn't make the #prideofbritain awards tonight. One of my favourite awards!. Good luck to all the nominees you're all amazing.'

The X Factor star told The Mirror: 'I'm sure when they feel confident and want to come out and tell everyone they will.
'It's their own business and I'm sure they'll be fantastic parents if they are, so I wish them all the best.'

Meanwhile, Cheryl's Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh told the site 'thanks,' when asked to pass on her congratulations, neither confirming nor denying rumours.
Kimberley's comments as she - who herself is pregnant with her second child -  told the Daily Star's TV Life magazine about Cheryl's happiness.
The Promise hitmaker revealed: 'Yes, I'm really happy that she's happy.
'I don't really want to go into too much detail on that because I feel it's something that she should speak about, but to know she's happy makes me happy.'
