Viewers are used to waking up with her every morning on the BBC Breakfast sofa.

But from the autumn Naga Munchetty will be moving to prime time Saturday night as the presenter joins this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC newsreader has become the ninth celebrity confirmed to take part in the forthcoming series of the Ballroom and Latin show.

The journalist admitted: 'I was so surprised to be asked to take part - I never thought I'd have the courage to say yes, but it would be simply silly to turn down the chance to learn to dance with a professional.'

And, although she's nervous about slipping into her skin-tight crystal-embellished gowns and hitting the dance floor on national television, the 41-year-old can't wait to start training.

Naga - who has been a regular presenter on BBC 'Breakfast' since 2009- explained: 'I'm going to give it my very best and enjoy what's bound to be a great adventure. I am equally excited, nervous and scared - I can't wait to start training!'

Outside of her career in journalism, Naga is a keen golfer plus she took part in and won her episode of Celebrity Mastermind in 2013 where her specialist subject was The Ryder Cup.

Naga will follow in the footsteps of BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood who starred on last year's series.

She joins Ed Balls, Will Young, Laura Whitmore, Ore Oduba, Melvin Odoom, Louise Redknapp, Danny Mac and Daisy Lowe who have already been announced as contestants for the new series of Strictly.

Her first dance as a married woman ended with her falling over ‘in a big puff of wedding dress’.

Undeterred, Naga Munchetty was yesterday confirmed to compete on this year’s Strictly – and used the announcement to stir up the debate on same-sex pairings by declaring she wanted professional dancer Karen Clifton.

The BBC Breakfast co-host said Mrs Clifton’s no-nonsense approach to choreography made the Venezuelan dancer the best partner to ‘whip her into shape’ and ignore her stubbornness.

Speaking live on Thursday morning’s show, Miss Munchetty, 41, was asked who she would like to hit the dancefloor with and said: ‘Karen. I know that won’t happen. It’s because she’s so brilliant, she’s just so determined and so on it and would take no nonsense. Because you know I can be a little bit stubborn. So sometimes I need a bit of a kick.’

She added Mrs Clifton, who is married to Strictly dancer Kevin, is a ‘pocket rocket and full of fire and I think she would be able to whip me into shape.’

The issue of whether celebrities on Strictly should be paired with professionals of the same-sex has long been hotly debated.

Last May, Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood said a same-sex pairing was ‘on the cards’ following successful runs in other countries such as Hungary.

He said: ‘It’ll be either this year or next year, but most certainly, it will happen. They did it already in Hungary or somewhere.

‘We should encourage that sort of thing, absolutely. There are competitions throughout the world that have same-sex couples, you just have to decide who goes backwards, darling!’

However the BBC faced backlash in September after issuing a controversial statement to say they would not be introducing same-sex partners on the show.

They said at the time: ‘Strictly is a family show and we have chosen the traditional format of mixed-sex couples.’

Former dancer James Jordan, who supported the show’s decision, said on This Morning: ‘If they [had same-sex partners] they would be a joke couple.

‘People wouldn’t take it seriously - it would be comedy value. I don’t think it would be two men dancing a sexy Rumba together.

‘I’m not saying I don’t want people to do it. There are same sex competitions which is fantastic, but on Strictly let’s keep it traditional. Why do we have to change something just to tick a box?’

However his sentiments were not shared by all dancers.

Responding to the BBC’s statement former professional Gleb Savchenko, 32, criticised the decision, saying TV bosses needed to ‘embrace diversity’.

He told GuysLikeU: ‘I think this would be a great idea. I believe the show should embrace diversity. Dance is for everyone.

‘If it happened, I would look forward to do some very exciting and very different choreography!’

Miss Munchetty, who admitted it was unlikely she would be paired with Mrs Clifton, also revealed she was concerned about her dancing ability after she fell over in her wedding dress 12 years ago shortly after tying the knot with TV director James Haggar.

She said: ‘I had to dance lessons before I got married and they didn’t quite work out because I ended up falling over on our first dance and James came over and picked me up very gallantly but no they didn’t work out. That’s all I’ve had.’

However, she could be being coy because she revealed that she was invited up on stage by Prince and danced with him on her 21st birthday.

The revelation prompted an awkward exchange live on BBC Breakfast with pop singer Lisa Stansfield who went on to ask if the presenter had slept with Prince, who died in April.

The presenter added: ‘I’ve always enjoyed watching Strictly. It’s a brilliant show and it’s lots of fun.’

Miss Munchetty joined the BBC as the presenter of Working Lunch, and became a full-time member of the BBC Breakfast team in 2014.

Miss Munchetty, joins a line-up which already includes ex-shadow chancellor Ed Balls, former Hollyoaks actor Danny Mac, ex-Eternal member Louise Redknapp, singer Will Young, TV presenter Laura Whitmore, radio DJ Melvin Odoom, model Daisy Lowe and sports broadcaster Ore Oduba.

She recently underwent a physical transformation to see how the elderly are treated in a social experiment.

And Roxanne Pallett, 33, looked back in her youthful form as she attended BBC Breakfast to talk about her old-age role in Manchester on Monday morning.

The former Emmerdale actress radiated femininity as she donned a white and pink, heavily floral dress which fell just short of her knees.

Giving off a slightly kooky eighties vibe, the stunning brunette opted for a light mint green tweed style jacket on top.

Ensuring that the ladylike feel was translated in the full element of the look, Roxanne opted for nude platform heels, which elongated her toned legs.

The Cumbria native kept her belongings safe in a small brown shoulder bag, complete with gold chain strap detailing.

Whilst her make-up look was mostly neutral, she sported a healthy baby pink flush on her cheeks.

The Waterloo Road star sported a huge grin as she combat her dark chocolate brown locks against the windy elements of the city.

This seemed like a far cry from her mood after filming the analysis of how the elderly get treated in society.

After undergoing four hours of prosthetics and make-up, the actress finally became 'Doris' and mentioned: 'It was a pretty brutal experience. I thought it was going to be fun and exciting but it just wasn't.'

She also mentioned that she felt 'invisible' after going undercover for BBC Radio 5 Live.

'I only went through it for a few hours but it's left me with a really heavy heart,' said Roxanne- who is an ambassador for Age UK.

Continuing about her experience and the lack of help she received, she mentioned: 'No one was assisting me and it was obvious I needed help. One man barged me when I was walking down the street, it was like I didn't matter.

'There's a lot of chivalry out there but it doesn't seem to apply to older people and that's not right and it's not fair.'

Since leaving Emmerdale in 2008, Roxanne has appeared in the stage production of the Rocky Horror Show and is set to star in the British film The Violaters this coming June.

Peter Andre is the latest celebrity to be confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing.

The 42-year-old singer has revealed he has signed up to take part in the upcoming series of the BBC One dance contest following months of speculation.

He said: 'Strictly Come Dancing' is an incredible show. I've always loved watching it on TV and to be honest I'm flattered to have been asked to take part before, but due to certain work commitments was unable to.

'I now just feel the time is right to give it a go - everything has just clicked into place to do it this year. Wish me luck please...argh!'

Peter - who recently tied the knot with medical student Emily MacDonagh, 24, and was previously married to Katie Price - is no stranger to reality TV having appeared on 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' as well as his own shows.

He is the latest star to be confirmed after 53-year-old BBC Breakfast Carol Kirkwood was announced as the sixth contestant on Tuesday.

And to get into the spirit, Scottish Carol shared a few moves as she showed off her fancy footwork with TV host - and former Strictly contestant - Bill Turnbull outside the offices of MediaCityUK in Salford, Manchester.

The Met Office-trained weather presenter certainly looked like she was getting into the swing of things as she strutted her stuff with the 59-year-old news anchor, accompanied by a host of young dancers.

Carol looked a far cry from her regular early morning appearance as she stunned in a form-fitting purple dress, teamed with classic nude court shoes.

Her blonde locks were styled into an elegant chignon with her make-up looking fresh and flawless, and she proved she's already adjusting to the glitz and glamour of Strictly by donning a fun white feather boa.

Meanwhile, presenter Bill Turnbull swapped his regular suit for a top hat and tails for the special occasion.

In a statement,Carol said she's looking forward to learning the ropes on the upcoming BBC One dance contest.

She said: 'I am beyond excited to be taking part in the best programme on British telly and have been a huge fan since it started!

'I can't wait to learn to dance and hope my experience on Strictly will be a breeze, whether it will be or not is one forecast I cannot predict!'

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, she later added: 'I can't believe this at all. It's been a dream for so long that I can't believe that it is finally happening.

'I can't even Waltz, I'm useless!'

As well as her weather presenting duties for BBC Breakfast, Carol's also fronted The Weather Show for the BBC News Channel and has appeared regularly on The One Show.

She also reports the weather every day on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.

Although Carol is brand new to the world of Latin and ballroom, she previously appeared as part of the Newsreader's Rocky Horror Show routine for Children In Need.

Carol joins BBC Proms presenter Katie Derham, 45, Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote, 24, EastEnders actress Kellie Bright, 39, TV chef Ainsley Harriott, 58, and BBC broadcaster Jeremy Vine, 50, who have been unveiled as contestants so far.

The 13th series of Strictly Come Dancing returns in September 2015.
