EXCLUSIVE 'She's my inspiration': Alesha Dixon admits overwhelming desire for daughter Azura to see her sing led to first musical output in four years

Prominent judging roles on Strictly Come Dancing and Britain's Got Talent have given her fresh options away from her R&B roots, but Alesha Dixon insists her primary focus will always be music - and with good reason.

The 36-year-old is currently juggling a hectic production schedule as she prepares for the BGT live finals while writing and recording tracks for her forthcoming fourth studio album.

But while she continues to champion the ITV show she joined in 2012, Alesha admits it is her musical legacy, not her role as a Saturday night television staple, she hopes to impress upon 19-month daughter Azura as she grows into adulthood.

'I can't wait for my daughter to get a bit bigger so she can come along with me and see what I'm doing and appreciate what I'm doing,' she said. 'That's a massive inspiration for me going back into the studio because I really want her to see me doing what I love to do.

'All these TV opportunities that I've had over the last four or five years have been wonderful and I've loved it but I want her to see me pursuing my passion.'

The singer was speaking to MailOnline while preparing to unveil the fist ever fan curated music video for lead single The Way We Are - a fresh initiative that gives them the opportunity to pick their favorite from three alternative endings.

The idea, part of the First Choice Summer of Music, represents Alesha's first musical output as a solo artist in four years - and she's eager to perform her new track during an imminent run of shows across the UK.

'I'll be performing the new single,' she said. 'I need to get back in with the band and do songs from the album.

'With the shows I've got coming up I'll do some old classics... some Mis-Teeq stuff, stuff from (second album) The Alesha Show, and (third album) The Entertainer. Then obviously we'll throw the new one in there as well.

'I need to get to know the songs a bit first before I perform them but I might throw the odd exclusive in there.'

Despite launching a career in her own right in the ten-years since splitting with girl band Mis-Teeq, Alesha doesn't rule out the possibility of a comeback with former band-mates Sabrina Washington and Su-Elise Nash.

'We were approached to do the Big Reunion but we collectively felt it wasn't right for us at that time,' she said.

'I think it's a timing thing with Misteeq. We wouldn't rule it out but it's not something we're going out of our way to make happen. It's pretty much in the same fashion that we got together, which was very organic.

She added: If we did something in the future it would happen pretty naturally and we'll just surprise people one day. But we haven't made any plans. All three of us are doing our own thing and happy doing our own thing at the moment.'
