Lily Collins looked out of this world in a starry ballerina inspired dress at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Mountain View, California on Sunday evening.

The 26-year-old English rose sparkled in an extremely low-cut LBD with a wide skirt that showed off her legs to maximal effect.

Lily looked immaculate as she worked the dazzling garment for photographers, effortlessly striking a series of flawless poses.

The Love, Rosie actress teamed the starry dress with a pair of black platform heels.

She wore her brown hair down in loose waves, and brought out her natural beauty to full effect with long lashes, a thick slick of eyeliner, and a coat bronzer eye shadow.

The actress brushed on pink blush to achieve a pretty finish.

Lily looked poised to perfection as she confidently posed up a storm in front of photographers, smiling brightly as she looked over her shoulder.

The star was enthusiastically documenting her prep for the science awards show in the time leading up to the annual event on Instagram.

She also revealed her mother Jill Tavelman had joined her in some capacity for the night.

'Starry night ahead #momdaughterdates...,' she captioned a photo of herself with her dressed-up mother.

Lily - whose father is rocker Phil Collins - was a presenter at the science bash.

The awards of seven $3 million sums are handed out during the Oscars-style ceremony, which is being hosted by Seth MacFarlane.

The Breakthrough Prizes were founded in 2012 by Sergey Brin of Google, Anne Wojcicki of 23andme, and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan - and other big names in Silicon Valley.

The awards honour outstanding achievements in the fields of sciences and maths to encourage further pioneering research in the field, celebrate the work of scientists and encourage them as career options.

Laureates of all prizes are chosen by selection committees, which comprise prior prize recipients.

Lily was also spotted that same day arriving to LAX, no doubt jetting off for the awards show.

When it comes to her own personal style, Lily has previously revealed she draws inspiration from her father, British rocker Phil Collins, and her mother, American former model Jill.

Speaking in a recent interview with Yahoo Style, she explained: 'I remember [my dad and I] used to go to Abercrombie and Fitch together. We'd have Abercrombie shopping trips together - go figure.'

But while her father enjoyed sharing with her his love of simple main street designs, Lily's mother Jill, with whom she moved to Los Angeles following her parents divorce, passed on a love of vintage fashion finds, making sure to introduce her daughter to some of the world's best-loved brands.

'When I was growing up, I was really into vintage,' Lily added. '[My mom] has all the vintage Vivienne Westwood and all these cool pieces that are so hard to find.'
