RICHARD KAY: Will baby faced Olivia get an Abbey outcome? Actress challenges creator Julian Fellowes to write her a part

Baby face: Olivia Hallinan has struggled to find suitable roles since starring in the BBC's Larkrise To Candleford
Flame-haired actress Olivia Hallinan is fed up. The 29-year-old rose to fame in the BBC’s Lark Rise To Candleford five years ago but has since found it difficult to find roles to suit her youthful looks.
‘I don’t get parts my age ever and that is frustrating because I have a baby face and tend to look much younger on screen,’ says Olivia, who studied drama at Manchester University and is due to appear in an episode of Sky One comedy Chickens.
In fact, she moans, the auditions are becoming ever more problematic.
‘You tend to see the same faces,’ she tells me.
‘It is more of a question of being seen for the right parts, because the casting directors don’t see as many people as they used to.
‘I mean, I love period dramas and I actually miss wearing the corsets because — funnily enough — being squeezed in all the time keeps you in shape.’
So Olivia has a challenge for Downton Abbey writer Julian Fellowes.
‘I would love to be reunited with Brendan Coyle, who plays Mr Bates and was my father in Larkrise,’ she says.
‘Come on Julian, write me a part! I would love to play a troublemaker and cause some real controversy.’
