Joss Whedon will direct a new Batgirl movie

The director was linked for years to the DC Wonder Woman big screen project.

Those dreams eventually died and Whedon switched comic book teams to have staggering success with the first two Marvel Avengers movies.

Patty Jenkins eventually brought Diana Prince back to life but Whedon is about to sign of the dotted line to helm the first standalone outing for another major female superhero.

Yes, after a rather disappointing missed opportunity in 1997's Batman and Robin, played by Alicia Silverstone, it's time for this lady to have her time in the spotlight.

Batgirl will make her solo debut in an upcoming Warner Bros movie for the DC Extended Universe.

Variety has an exclusive report that the movie studio is close to finalising a deal with Whedon that would see him retaining extensive creative control over the project.

One cavorts with vampires for a living while the other has played a sorceress.

But both Nina Dobrev and Emmy Rossum put on a bewitching display on Thursday night as they attended Go90's event in Los Angeles.

The Vampire Diaries star, 26, wore a plunging floral print dress while the Beautiful Creatures actress, 29, displayed her gorgeous figure in a skintight red frock.

Nina positively glowed in her blew and red number as she wore her dark tresses down in flowing waves over her shoulders.

While Emmy posed seductively in her tight dress, which featured a keyhole design flashing a little cleavage of her own.

The Phantom Of The Opera star certainly stole the show in her figure hugging ensemble as she stood tall in nude heels.

In recent weeks Emmy has been spotted flashing her impressive ring, featuring a round diamond set in a platinum or white gold band.

This is the second marriage for the Mystic River star – she was previously married to music executive Justin Siegel.

The former couple tied the knot in February 2008, when Emmy was just 21, and Justin (now 34) filed for divorce the following September.

Alexander Skarsgård may play a vampire in his hit TV series True Blood.

But Olivia Wilde looked more like a character out of a fantasy story as she posed on the red-carpet alongside the actor at a fragrance launch on Thursday night.

The 28-year-old actress was fairy-like in a emerald green sheath dress complete with cape as she celebrated the debut of Calvin Klein's new perfume Encounter in New York.

The Butter star's low-cut ensemble featured a delicate finely printed silk fabric which gave an almost shimmering effect.

The attire was cut as a slip, but featured the material attached at the bust and all the way around the shoulders like a cape.

Olivia let her stunning dress do all the talking by wearing just a pair of simple gold strappy sandals, a large green cocktail ring and her hair in a prairie style up-do complete with braiding.

The actress opted for a smoky eye and nude lip and was simply glowing.

Earlier in the evening, Olivia attended The Cinema Society with DKNY, Forevermark & RentTheRunway.com after-party for the premiere of her film Butter at The Double Seven.

This time she chose a figure-hugging white dress for the event and metallic accessories.

Olivia plays a stripper in her new dark comedy Butter, which also sees her sharing a steamy smooch with co-star Greene.

And as far as a career move, Olivia thinks it’s a great idea.

During the day on Thursday, the actress chatted about why, as an actor, it’s always important to push yourself to do things you normally wouldn’t.

Speaking at a press conference for the film, Olivia jokingly said she would advise fellow actors: ‘Take risks, and take your clothes off — even if they don’t ask. Leave your comfort zone.’

Olivia looked her usual stylish self for the conference in a black and white printed blazer, black trousers and matching boots.

They were also joined by 40-year-old Garner, who looked slim in a short printed shift dress for the press conference.

Ashley plays Jennifer’s disapproving stepdaughter in the movie, and she spoke out about why it is important for her to do roles as far removed from Twilight as possible.

She said: ‘I think it’s about going outside of your comfort zone. It’s about always working and always moving forward and not allowing yourself to feel comfortable anywhere, because I think if you feel comfortable, you’re not doing your job, and you’re not where you’re supposed to be.’

Ashley added: ‘You should always have this adrenaline rush and always be moving, always be ‘on,’ and always be doing something different.

Meanwhile the cast reminisced about the day of training in butter carving that they enjoyed in preparation for filming the movie.

Olivia, who later in the day stepped out in a glamorous white dress, wasn’t required to learn the skill but said she couldn’t resist getting involved.

Clueless star Alicia Silverstone smoulders in her underwear as she talks about the struggle to prove her intelligence

She gave birth to her first child last year, but Alicia Silverstone is eager to prove she's back to her best.

The 35-year-old, who shot to fame in the 90s movie Clueless, stripped down to her lingerie for a racy new shoot in Bullet magazine.

The flirty blonde smoulders for the camera while posing in different sets of briefs and bras.

Sweeping her blonde locks over to one side and playfully twirling it in one image, she leans on her arm wearing high-waist briefs and stockings.

In another shot, she draws attention to her cleavage by clasping her hands around her tiny upper waist, rather impressive considering she gave birth to her first in May last year.

The mother of Bear Blu, one, her son with rock musician Christopher Jarecki, isn’t shy about showing her cheeky side in the pictorial, flashing her toned derriere while wearing a little black dress.

In the accompanying interview, Silverstone opened up about how she struggled to prove her intelligence after playing Clueless' Cher at the tender age of 18.

The PETA campaigner explained it took a lot of work for her shake the airhead image.

‘I remember doing interviews in London for some movie at the time, and the interviewers would want to talk about the movie, of course, but all I wanted to talk about was murder.

‘They probably expected me to be like the Clueless character, but instead I was sitting there saying stuff like, "And then they anally electrocute!" I pretty much bummed everyone out.’

Clueless director Amy Heckerling spoke to the magazine about her decision to cast Alicia in the film, comparing her to Marilyn Monroe.

She explains: ‘When I was writing the script for Clueless, I had a vague notion in my head of Cher as a pretty, sweet blonde, who, in spite of being the American ideal, people still really like.

‘You had that Marilyn Monroe thing, which is that other women love you, too.’

The pair worked together again on motion picture Vamps to be released in October.

Alicia said about working on the vampire flick with Heckerling: 'When we worked together on Vamps all these years later, I felt very connected to you. Maybe it’s because I’m a woman now, too.

'I was so honoured when you asked me to be in Vamps.'
