    It was one of the biggest nights of year for country stars.
And Carrie Underwood showed she is the reining Queen of the genre at the CMT Music Awards by picking up two awards.
The star looked stunning for the evening in a metallic sequined mini dress and sky high black shoe boots.

She paraded her endless legs in the short frock and vamped up her rock chick look with backcombed hair.
The songbird scooped the most prestigious gong of the evening in the form of the Video of the Year award for her hit Good Girl.
She said in her acceptance speech: 'I just want to thank you guys for watching the videos, voting for them, supporting all of us because we all need you, we all love you.'

It was a double whammy for the 29-year-old, who also picked up the award for Collaborative Video of the Year alongside Brad Paisley, for the song Remind Me.
When he took to the stage, Brad couldn't help but gush over getting to work with the blonde bombshell.
He said: 'I'd like to thank this beautiful woman for being in the video. Otherwise, it's just a dork walking through the desert.'

Carrie, who performed at the event, won two out of a possible three awards this evening - she was also nominated for  Female Video of the Year, but the accolade went to Miranda Lambert.
Miranda gave an emotional tribute to her late brother-in-law as she accepted the gong for her single Over You.
She told the crowd: 'This song means so much to me and to my husband and to our family. I just want to thank Blake's brother, Richie, in heaven for inspiring us to write this song.'

Luke Bryan was presented with the award for Male Video of the Year for his track I Don't Want This Night To End.
He joked: 'When I came home to show my wife this video, I removed all the bullets out of our house. And I want to thank her not going to buy more bullets to shoot me with.'
Meanwhile Lady Antebellum won Group Video of the Year for We Owned the Night and Dave Haywood spoke on behalf of the trio.

Scott McCreery picked up the USA Breakthrough Weekend Video for The Trouble With Girls, which was shot at his home high school in North Carolina.
Jason Aldean won CMT Performance of the Year for his rendition of Tattoos on This Town, while Thompson Square took home the gong for Duo of the Year for I Got You.
The star-studded event was held tonight in Nashville, Tennessee.

    A host of glamorous stars lit up the red carpet at the CMT Music Awards this evening.
And it was something of a battle of the blondes as Kristen Bell, Denise Richards and Hayden Panettiere all competed in the style stakes.
Kristen Bell was the host of the country music event, held in Nashville, Tennessee.

So the House of Lies actress went all out in a stunning golden gown by Reem Acra that trailed on the floor as she walked.
The 31-year-old posed up with her Parenthood actor fiancé Dax Shepard, who also dressed to the nines in a sparkling suit.
Bond Girl Denise Richards rivalled Kristen by parading her enviable pins in a sequined mini dress by Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet.

The cream colour of the frock accentuated the 41-year-old’s golden tan and she accessorised with glittering gold pumps and lashings of scarlet lipstick.
Meanwhile Hayden Panettiere looked adorable in a black floral top and cream swing skirt, which she topped off with classic black pumps.
The 22-year-old, who stars in upcoming TV show Nashville, styled her honey blonde hair into tight curls.

Carrie Underwood also looked stunning for the country bash, where she is nominated for four gongs.
The star looked every inch the leggy blonde in a short and sweet black sequined mini dress and sky high black shoe boots.

The pale pink gown highlighted the 15-year-old’s porcelain skin and chocolate brown locks.
Meanwhile singer Jordin Sparks chose a floor-sweeping coral gown with an interesting train which deepened in shade.
And Miranda Lambert and Jennie Garth both kept things simple in strapless frocks, with Miranda in black and Jennie choosing green.

The two country finalists from the latest season of American Idol, Colton Dixon and Skylar Laine, were also invited to the ceremony.
Rising star Skylar showed she has already developed a unique red carpet style and sported a daring and dramatic silver dress with both long and short hemlines.
Elizabeth Cook and Grace Potter also opted for silver gowns.

But Twilight star Ashley Greene held her own alongside some of country music's biggest artists as she walked the red carpet at the 2012 CMT Music Awards tonight. 
The sultry 25-year-old starlet, who was a presenter at the prize-giving, turned heads in a plunging dusty pink dress that accentuated her neckline and hugged her every curve.  
Ashley was among those leading the fashion pack in the country capital of Nashville, Tennessee.

Wearing a Donna Karan atelier dress accented with feathers swaying from her hemline, her look was youthful and chic paired with gold Nicholas Kirkwood heels and smokey eyes that lent a hint of vamp.
    Ashley kept her accessories minimal, her brunette locks waving loosely around a pair of gold earrings. 
    The actress was at the ceremony to present with music artist Jake Owen the award for Best Video Collaboration, won by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood for their hit single Remind Me.
    Before arriving, she took to her Twitter page to tell fans she was thrilled to be a part of the annual show.

    'Just got to Nashville... There was cornbread and honey upon arrival... I love this place... It's magic,' she wrote today.
    The 2012 CMT Music Awards was hosted this year by Toby Keith and Kristen Bell. 
    A host of glamourous stars lit up the red carpet and the stage, with Denise Richards, Hayden Panettiere and Kristen Bell also among those competing in the style stakes. 
    Kristen, 31, struck a pose with her Parenthood actor fiancé Dax Shepard, who turned up his own style in a shimmering suit and polka dot tie.

    The early standout of the evening was Carrie Underwood, nominated in four categories, who took the stage in a black sequined mini dress and black boots.

    In addition to taking home the prize for Collaborative Video of the year, the former American Idol star won Video of the Year for her hit Good Girl. 
    Other early winners included Luke Bryan, whose I Don't Want This Night to End won for Male Video of the Year; and Miranda Lambert, whose Over You won the female category.
    Lady Antebellum's We Owned the Night took home the prize for Group Video of the Year. 
    Duo Video winner was Thompson Square's I Got You; and Breakthrough Video was Scotty McCreety's The Trouble With Girls.
