Blissful Hilary Duff reveals her taut stomach and svelte gym-honed shape in a patterned string bikini during beach day in Hawaii

She recently said that she felt 'fit and strong and happy' after personal battles with her weight.

So Hilary Duff, 27, got the chance to celebrate it on Wednesday, as she blissfully played on the beach in a string bikini, accompanied by her three-year-old son Luca.

Smiling beneath a sun hat, the mum-of-one revealed - not only the products of her intense regime - but also her improved well-being of the latest fitness effort.

The former child star showcased the athletic nature of her petite physique as she displayed a toned set of abs for the first time since her pregnancy.

She was glamorously dressed for the beach day and kept herself protected from the sun in style with mirrored shades and a large sun hat. 

Toned as she ran up the beach, the beauty certainly had that holiday feeling and let out a giggle as she turned towards a girlfriend and her young son.

The results of Hilary's stepped up gym regime were first revealed in late 2014, as she simultaneously admitted to Shape magazine that she finally felt 'fit and strong and happy'.

In the interview, she said addressed her own personal weight battle saying that in her Disney years as Lizzie McGuire she had been 98lbs and 'far too skinny'.

Like most, she still hovers around five to ten pounds of weight fluctuation, she admits, but she said was proud that her body had been so strong throughout pregnancy. 

Later, the star told Elle.com: 'I just tell myself, "I'm 5'2", I'm really fit, killing it in the gym, and doing crazy things." I love to work out, but I'm just not that concerned with being the skinniest person.'

Beautiful: She proved that her well being was a huge priority as she laughed and played

Athletic: She recently admitted that she's found a happy weight, which is much more advisable than when she was 'too skinny' as a teen

'I'm not a model; I'm an actress. I always feel like I'm in the five to ten pound struggle, but my life is so busy. I'm just not that concerned, really. I'm normal and I'm perfectly happy being that way.

'Some weeks I'm like, "Man, my clothes are fitting so good" and then some weeks I'm like, "I need to cut back on a few things," but that's it. I don't fall into the trap of having to be 110 pounds.' 

2014 was also the year that Hilary filed from divorce from Luca's father Mike Comrie and she very publicly signed up to dating app Tinder.

Mike and Hilary are now working on amicable co-parenting relationship for the sake of Luca, as their legal battle for custody continues.

The 32-year-old Once Upon A Time actress kept it simple but classy wearing a short sleeved little black dress at the premiere held during the Los Angeles Film Festival.

Jamie was accompanied by fiance Bryan Greenberg and the rest of the star-studded cast including Hannah Simone, Chris D'Elia and Pitch Perfect 2 star Skylar Astin.

Jamie looked ladylike in a loose-fitting mini dress that cut right above her knees.

The Real World alum cinched in her waist with a matching belt which she tied around her thin torso.

The People Stylewatch ambassador completed her look with caged heels.

Missing from the event was lead actress Hilary Duff, who was spotted earlier in the day with ex Mike Comrie and their son Luca in LA.

Flock Of Dudes is a story about a man named 'Adam (Chris D'Elia) who is a thirty something living a ridiculous lifestyle with his three lifelong friends. After a series of events such as getting evicted from the house they ruined together and his ex dating a super successful famous guy, Adam decides it's time to grow up by "breaking up" with his friends.'

Also featured in the film are actors Eric Andre, Hannibal Buress, Brett Gelman, Melissa Rauch, Jeffery Ross, Marc Maron, Kumail Nanjiani, Timothy Simons and Kelen Coleman.

Hilary Duff may be looking great - but she wants other mothers to know that she did not wake up like this the day after giving birth.

After three years of workout dedication, the 27-year-old star is showing off her hard work in Shape Magazine's May issue - and using the publication to clear up some Hollywood 'truths.'

Hilary wants other moms to not feel pressure to bounce right back after having their babies.

The body confident star told the magazine that even she struggled to not feel pressured.

Hilary said: 'There's so much pressure to always have it together, and I'm not falling for it. 

'You see supermodels who have babies, and the next week they look as if they were never pregnant. That was not the case with me.'

Mixing it up: The star said she does not just mindlessly go to the gym each day, instead three days a week she tries different workouts involving weighted balls, battle ropes and even a huge hammer

But the mother of one - Luca, three - said she is learning to not be so hard on herself.

'Some days I feel great, others I feel pretty normal, and that's acceptable.'

But while she may have her up and down days, the Younger actress is certainly looking very good at the moment.

Of her workout regime she said: 'I don't do auto-gym. I go three times a week and mix it up every time.

'I work out with weighted balls, battle ropes, and big rubber bands. I do this thing with a sledgehammer where I swing it and hit a rubber block, and it gets out all of my aggression. Everyone is like, ''Uh-oh, Hilary's got the hammer - get out of the way!'''

Hilary also shapes up on a daily basis by carrying her 35-pound three-year-old tot all around town.

No diets: The actress said she avoids dieting, saying she'd rather have her fingernails pulled out then restrict herself when it comes to food

'The other day we went to Disneyland and he fell asleep in my arms, and I had to carry him back to my car, which was a 30-minute walk. I was dying,' the Elixer author explained.

Dispite her impressive physique - which she showed off in a myriad of different looks - the star says she does not diet.

'I rely on grown-woman food.

'I’d rather have someone pull my fingernails off than hunker down and go on an actual diet. It’s so hard for me! 

'My sister Haylie and I once considered doing a baby-food diet, but it just sounded too disgusting.

And that 'grown-woman food' includes having some cheese handy at all times.

'The key to a happy life is cheese. It’s a real problem. I can’t say no to it! There’s a cheese shop in Beverly Hills, and my car is like a magnet to it. Luca is crazy about it, too. Love the cheese.' 

But her absolute favourite snack is pretty healthy, a 'Wasa cracker topped with avocado, radish, chica seeds, a little olive oil, some sea salt, lemon, and dill.'

Talking about her eating preferences, Hilary revealed she roasts all her vegetables with olive oil, as steamed veggies 'bore' her. 

But it is not just her figure which has changed, the actress also spoke about how she is trying to leave her squeaky clean child star image behind her too.

'I embrace the mess. I had to be careful not to screw up in public as a child actor. 

'So on my new show, Younger - which is written by Darren Star, who created Sex And The City - it’s really fun for me to play Kelsey, a 27-year-old book editor whose personal life is a hot mess. She always chooses the wrong guy, drinks way too much, and has to cover for herself the next morning.'

Inside the magazine, the star had a chance to indulge her passion for her favourite fashion staple - denim.

Hilary got to wear her beloved material and be a little sexy in one shot, wearing a denim Guess Moto Zip Up Corset.
