A hard day's Knight: Beverley takes centre stage in The Bodyguard musical as she reveals her extended run

Beverley Knight has become the Queen of the Night in The Bodyguard musical.
The singer took over from Broadway star Heather Headley in September and has given the show at the Adelphi some stability.
As fabulous as Ms Headley was, she did not perform all of her contracted performances because of illness.
This angered ticket buyers, and word of mouth turned down at the lip somewhat.
However Knight has been at all of her scheduled performances, and the box office — and word of mouth — has picked up considerably.
So much so that Knight has told me she will be extending her run as Rachel Marron through May 31, and the show is booking through next August.
‘It’s hard bloody work,’ Knight said, with a laugh, ‘but it’s so much fun at the same time with this company.
'I’m singing and dancing every single night and I’m learning.
'I’ve always gone on stage to sing as Beverley Knight, but I’ve had to learn how to play someone else.’
She’s also had to learn how to keep herself healthy for a long theatre run.
‘I’m precious about my voice, but not overly precious. When I come off stage I have my honey drink just to guard against coughs and colds. If my throat’s hydrated I can get through anything.
'The moment I feel a dry tickle I go into action and drink something — but not drink drink, because it doesn’t like me, and I don’t like it!’
She also knows she’s got to look after her vocal cords when there are folks from Wolverhampton (her home town) in the house.
‘My husband and family bring coachloads to the theatre and I like to meet them all afterwards, but I don’t talk and stay up all night.’
She’s enjoying being in the West End and pops in to see other shows during her matinee days off.
She loves The Book Of Mormon, though she said she felt fairly certain her family from  Wolverhampton would not approve.
