But 21-year-old Ariana Grande recalled the trend when she debuted her new single One Last Time on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show post-game Super Bowl special on Sunday in Phoenix.
The pop star showed off her toned figure in a black jumpsuit that had a sweetheart neckline as the late-night show's Grammy-winning house band The Roots backed the performance.

She accessorized with a Chanel belt, black platform heels and a black choker.
The singer had on a generous amount of makeup, including a smokey eye, heavy wing-tipped eyeliner and a bronze lip color. 
She maintained her signature high ponytail with her straight tresses tied back.

Jimmy congratulated the songbird on the success of her sophomore album, My Everything, which he presented on stage.
One Last Time is the pop star's latest track after experiencing a series of chart topping hits with Problem, Break Free and Love Me Harder. 
And music industry observers have taken notice of her powerhouse pipes.
Ariana recently scored two Grammy Awards nominations, including Best Pop Vocal Album for My Everything, and her collaboration with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj on Bang Bang earned her a nod in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category.

Following the performance she took to Twitter and thanked the comedian for having her as a guest.
'That was fun ! thank u again for having me @jimmyfallon & congrats on a great night #jimmybowl #onelasttime' she tweeted, adding, 'The nicest dude of all time @jimmyfallon ! i say this every time i do his show but i just can't. he is just the nicest ever.'
A day earlier the Break Free hitmaker shared her excitement about premiering the song for a live audience.

The late-night host's special program that followed the big game, of which the New England Patriots won against the Seattle Seahawks 28 to 24, also included a lip-sync battle with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart stepped in as competitors.
Will's spoof of Beyonce's Drunk In Love was selected as the winning performance.
