She said: 'Jeremy was the consummate professional and has done all of this stuff before but that was the challenge for me was to become bad and brave and learn how to fight and to do all my stunts.
'Theres always an element of you could get really hurt but a lot of it is fear'.
Gemma's character is well known from the children's tale but she warned Kate that the movie definitely is not one for children.
After fighting monsters and demons on screen she admitted that in real life she finds domestic crime the most frightening thing.

'Things like we had theses riots in London last year, I just think how society is so fragile. I think that's very scary, and there are many things that scare me but that one in particular.'
Hansel and Gretel was published by the famous German siblings in 1812; but Grimm tales lost favour after the end of the second world war after some academics posited that the often bloody tales had been a catalyst for the acceptance of Nazism.
However, this view has since been questioned and there's a push in Wilhelm and Jacob's homeland to resurrect the stories - popular with Disney and the rest of the world - in German households.

Gemma Arterton looked every inch the English rose when she appeared at the premiere of her new film on Monday night.
But, film fans can be certain that the only sweetness in the new film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D, comes from bon bons in the gnarled hand of an evil old hag as Gemma is playing an all-action heroine.
She plays the role of Gretel, who alongside her brother Hansel, is a bounty hunter on a mission to rid the world of as many evil witches as they can find.

The film, produced by Will Ferrell, is a black comedy action flick and already receiving good reviews.
The 27-year old actress looked stunning in a full length silk printed gown by celebrity-favourite designer Erdem.
Gemma's dress was from the Resort 2013 collection, and highlighted her svelte curves perfectly.

The pink and purple hues of the dress' floral pattern looked vibrant against her naturally porcelain skin, and her brunette hair looked glossy and perfectly coiffed.
Gemma rarely wears make-up, but made an effort for the Sydney film screening.
As well as a slash of pink lipstick, she also highlighted her deep brown eyes with a generous daubing of eyeshadow.

Her co-star in the film, Jeremy Renner, was also at the premiere.
The American actor looked distinguished in a grey three piece suit and thin tartan scarf.
Jeremy, 42, plays a very modern version of the classic character of Hansel.
Due to a witch force feeding him sweets when he was a child, his character suffers from diabetes, and needs to have a daily injection in order to stay active.

Gemma Arterton and co-star Peter Stormare at Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters premiere

That's a bit much! Gemma Arterton is wooed by over-affectionate co-star Peter Stormare at Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters premiere

|
She stars opposite handsome Jeremy Renner in the latest big screen adaptation of Brothers Grimm fairytale Hansel and Gretel.
But Gemma Arterton was getting far more attention from her co-star Peter Stormare at the Los Angeles movie premiere on Thursday night.
The British star was treated to hugs, kisses and what looked like a marriage proposal.

Dropping down on his knees the Swedish actor held his hands together in prayer while Gemma watched with mirth.
Clearly there was a private joke between the pair as Peter is married with three kids, and the London based actress tied the knot with her sales manager husband Stefano Catelli in 2010.
Rather than be embarrassed by the public show of affection, Gemma laughed it off, soon getting back to working the red carpet.

The 27-year-old went for the classic color fabric with an embellished neckline and a matching black clutch for the glitzy event.
Her mahogany locks were swept into a wispy up-do, accented by a golden headband that added a touch of softness to her look.
Gemma wore minimal make-up for the red carpet, but her rosy complexion glowed as she stood next to co-star Jeremy.
The pair were also joined by actors Famke Janssen, Pihla Viitala who is dressed by celebrity stylist Dagmarette Yen, Zoe Bell and director Tommy Wirkola at the event.

Famke stole glances in a floor-sweeping emerald gown, while Pihla wore a sheer lace confection over a grey A-line dress.
Will Ferrell also showed up to lend his support, showing up in a dapper grey pinstripe suit, while Jeremy looked dashing in dark blues and blacks.
Last week, Jeremy and Genna stopped by the Today Show to talk about their respective roles in Tommy Wirkola's Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Gemma admitted to reporter Matt Lauer the movie interested her because of its high-octane action scenes.
'It was really attractive to me to play a tough girl I have a lot of action. I get beaten up pretty bad,' she said.
Speaking about her character Gretel and starring alongside Jeremy Renner as Hansel she said: 'We go hand in hand together as a team, adding, 'I really enjoyed all the action stuff, it was great.'

'This is not like happily ever after fairy tales anyway.'
'We sort of continue what it and where are they are now, 15 years later when they become bounty hunters and kill witches,' he explained.
The promotional duties come at a time of personal turmoil for the actor, if reports are to be believed.

According to USA Today, Jeremy revealed he was expecting a child with his ex-girlfriend while speaking to Eva Longoria at the Golden Globes.
The witnesses heard him telling an apparently-shocked Longoria: 'I'm going to fly in when her water breaks.'
Eva then reportedly said: 'I'm so blown away.'
The ex-girlfriend is believed to be due to give birth next month and is reportedly currently living at The Bourne Legacy actor's Los Angeles home.
