Long-running '80s sitcom Cheers is set to become a stage production in 2016

Raise your glass! Long-running '80s sitcom Cheers is set to become a stage production in 2016

The massively successful Eighties TV sitcom Cheers is set for a live theatre reboot.
It's one of three classic CBS shows that will tread the boards in 2016, according to BroadwayWorld.com.
Called Cheers Live On Stage, the touring production will 'showcase classic moments' from the series although the company hasn't confirmed if any original cast - which included Ted Danson, Kirstie Alley and Kelsey Grammer - members will be involved.
The original crew: Cheers, starring Ted Danson and a strong support cast, wrapped in 1993 after 11 seasons. Now CBS plans a live theatre version of the sitcom although it hasn't said whether any of the stars will return

The hit TV series premiered in 1982 and ran for 11 seasons before finally putting up the closed sign in 1993. During that time it nabbed 27 Emmy Awards.
Danson starred as playboy bartender Sam at the Boston bar with a strong supporting cast included Alley, Grammer, Woody Harrelson, Shelley Long, Rhea Perlman, George Wendt and John Ratzenberger.
John, who played postal worker Cliff Clavin, talked about the legit version of Cheers at Monday night's premiere of Pixar's Inside Out at El Capital Theatre in Hollywood.

The actor voices Fritz, one of the characters in the animated movie.
'I just got an email yesterday that CBS is planning a stage show of Cheers,' he told People.
Expanding on the subject a little more, the 68-year-old added: 'It could be good. It could be horrible.
'If it was a musical, that would be kind of fun, sure. If it's a drama like Tennessee Williams, that would be kind of depressing.'

CBS is also planning stage revivals for Seventies family sitcom The Brady Bunch and Corduroy about a cartoon bear.
'The Brady Bunch and Cheers are two iconic TV shows with a deep connection to fans that is as strong as ever,' CBS's Liz Kalodner said in a statement at the beginning of the month.
'These live adaptations will capitalize on the shows' timeless characters and stories to create something completely new and captivating.'

Nicholas Hoult looks Beast-ly as he transforms into X-Men alter ego to shoot Days Of Future Past fight scene with Michael Fassbender

Nicholas Hoult looks Beast-ly as he transforms into X-Men alter ego to shoot Days Of Future Past fight scene with Michael Fassbender

|
Last week fans were treated to a sneak peek of how Jennifer Lawrence will look in the new X-Men movie.
And while she made a striking image, painted in top-to-toe blue, it's Nicholas Hoult who is drawing all the looks this week.
The actor, who is rumoured to have rekindled his romance with Jennifer recently, has now debuted how he will look in X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
Feeling blue? Nicholas Hoult reveals his transformation into Beast as he films scenes for upcoming movie X-Men: Days Of Future Past

As fans of the first X-Men sequel will know, Nicholas' character Hank McCoy tried to cure himself of his mutation, which causes him to have ape-like feet and super strength. However, the cure backfired, and Hank's transformation into Beast began.
And the first images of Nicholas in character on set in in Montreal, Canada, while filming the next prequel show that Hank has now been entirely taken over by the mutation - with blue, furry skin, claws and fangs for teeth.
And he's one blue beast if the images of recent scenes are anything to go by which show him getting into a fight with Michael Fassbender, who plays the young Magneto.
The actor, 23, looked a picture as he strolled around the set with a cola in hand during one break.

Not only was he painted in head to toe blue, but he was even given bulging arm and leg muscles to add to his imposing appearance.
He stood out as he chatted to crew members while hovering above them dressed in dark brown trousers and an orange shirt.
But when he was chatting and laughing with the crew and cast, he was tussling with Fassbender as they filmed fight scenes while throwing each other in water.
As Michael, 36, was pushed completely under the water, Nicholas looked frightening as the Beast as he put on his claws as gloves.

Just a few days ago Jennifer was also seen wandering around set in full body make-up.
Jennifer, 22, looked in fine figure wearing just a skin-tight bodysuit and blue bodypaint.
And she seemed in ebullient mood as she hammed it up with former boyfriend Nicholas Hoult on her way back to the make-up trailer, which is sure to fuel rumours the pair have hitched up together again.

She was spotted chatting and making funny faces at the 23-year-old English hunk, who made his name playing Tony Stonem in cult Channel 4 hit Skins.
If they have reunited on set it would certainly be appropriate, as their two-year relationship started after they met while filming 2011's X-Men: First Class.
Jennifer previously revealed she actually enjoyed the seven-hours in make-up required for her to appear as the shape-shifting mutant Mystique.
Mystique: Jennifer has been painted blue for much of her time on set

She said: 'There was no CG for me. It’s the same technology and the same methods they were using on Rebecca Romijn, the original Mystique ten years ago.
'I know everybody feels sorry for me, but we’re having so much fun. It’s like a sleepover, except I’m naked and being painted.'
X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to be released on July 18, 2014 and while focussing on the cast of  First Class, it also features series stalwarts Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen and Halle Berry.
And followers of the franchise will be particularly interested in seeing Hoult's image overhaul as it will be the first time he will be transformed on screen.

Trending: Boss Actress Hannah Ware

Of veteran Panorama reporter John Ware’s two daughters, singer-songwriter Jessie and actress Hannah, it’s Brit-award nominee Jessie who’s the UK star.
But across the Atlantic, they’re raving about elder sister Hannah, 30, who stars opposite Kelsey Grammer in political drama Boss.
The series won Grammer a Best Actor Golden Globe for his portrayal of Chicago mayor Tom Kane, who is hiding a degenerative brain disorder. Hannah plays Emma, his wayward daughter with a few secrets of her own.
With her standout looks, Hannah seems more suited to a cosmetics ad than a gritty drama – and indeed that was the way she was headed when, aged 12, she was the youngest girl to be signed by Storm model agency, gracing teen mag covers and appearing in ads for the likes of Clearasil.
She continued with her studies and won a place at London’s The Bartlett school to study architecture, but acting beckoned. Roles in Shame with Michael Fassbender and Cop Out with Bruce Willis followed.
Now with Boss about to hit TV screens here, her profile is set to rival her sister’s as our spies, who are glued to the show, say it’s better than Homeland.
Fast fact In 2010 Hannah married skateboarder Jesse Jenkins. He’d just split from Fearne Cotton and, when the marriage ended after 11 days, he got back with the DJ. Fearne is now with another Jesse (Wood, son of Ronnie). Keep up!
Boss is on Channel 4 this month

Jennifer Garner is stunning in embellished white dress at Directors Guild Awards + Winners List

Jennifer Garner looks stunning in embellished white dress while Anne Hathaway opts for pretty printed frock at Directors Guild Awards

|

Her husband is having a banner year with CIA drama Argo.
And while Ben Affleck was nearing the home stretch of Hollywood's awards season on Saturday night, his stunning wife Jennifer Garner was there to support him.
The 40-year-old actress dazzled in a white Antonio Berardi cocktail dress at the Directors Guild of America Awards in Los Angeles.

Jennifer swept her hair back into a chic up-do, and with a lash of red lipstick, Cartier jewellery and silver Ferragamo stilettos, was nothing short of a classic Hollywood beauty.
The mother-of-three wasn't the only one wowing in the style stakes, Anne Hathaway cut a stylish figure in a Valentino gown with an intricate print.
The Les Miserables star's hair is currently growing out after she shaved her head to take on the role of Fantine in the flick.
Ben, who picked up the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film, looked dashing in a tuxedo.

The 40-year-old director was up against Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Steven Spielberg (Lincoln), Ang Lee (Life of Po) and Tom Hooper (Les Miserables) for the coveted accolade.
Saturday's prize also normally would make Affleck a near shoo-in to win best-director at the February 24 Oscars, since the Directors Guild recipient nearly always goes on to claim the same prize at Hollywood's biggest night.

Kelsey Grammer for the second straight year is hosting the event, held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland.
The former Frasier star was joined by his wife, Kayte Walsh, who wore a red cocktail dress, on the red carpet.
The actor opened with a joke for Bigelow, whose Zero Dark Thirty chronicles the capture of terrorist Osama bin Laden - insisting it must be 'torture' for her to wait for the winners to be announced.
The director was styled to jockey with the veterans of Hollywood's boys' club, wearing smart blazer and black trousers to the event.
One of the evening's early winners was Lena Dunham. The 26-year-old Girls creator, producer, writer, director and star took home the prize for Best Comedy Series.

The DGAs typically serve as a final blessing for the film that goes on to win best picture and director at the Academy Awards.
Affleck can go only one-for-two at the Oscars, though. He's up for the film honor at the guild awards, and Argo is looking like the best picture favorite at the Oscars on February 24. But the director's branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences overlooked him and several other key filmmakers for an Oscar directing slot.
The guild and Oscar directing lineups usually match up closely, but they have little in common this season, with only Steven Spielberg for Lincoln and Ang Lee for Life of Pi nominated at both shows.

But Affleck's Argo, in which he also stars as a CIA operative who hatches a bold plan to rescue six Americans during the hostage crisis in Iran, has been sweeping up all the major awards since the Oscar nominations. Argo won best drama and director at the Golden Globes and top film honors from the Screen Actors Guild and the Producers Guild of America.
Many of the same film professionals who vote in guild awards also cast ballots for the Oscars. If Affleck wins at the Directors Guild awards, it will be a strong sign that Argo has the inside track for the best picture Oscar.
Saturday's honours aren't all about Argo, though. Milos Forman (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Amadeus) will receive the guild's lifetime achievement award, and the director's union also will hand out prizes for television, documentary and commercials.
