Forget binging on turkey and the trimmings.
Instead Selena Gomez will celebrate Thanksgiving with a live performance at an American football game in her native Texas.
The 21-year-old singer will perform at halftime of the nationally televised game between the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys.
Selena's performance will launch the The Salvation Army's 123rd Red Kettle Campaign to help the poor over the holidays.

'Dallas is my hometown, and to be invited to perform on behalf of The Salvation Army is such a great honor,' Selena said on Sunday in a statement.
The Cowboys have partnered with The Salvation Army to launch the fundraiser on Thanksgiving Day since 1997. The campaign has raised more than $1.75 billion in the past past 16 years to provide meals, clothes, shelter, toys and other goods and services for the poor.
    The Cowboys beat the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday and announced before their game that Selena will be the halftime performer on Thanksgiving. The Cowboys annually host a game on Thanksgiving Day.

    Other performers who previously have provided halftime entertainment to launch the charity drive include: Kenny Chesney, Enrique Iglesias, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban.
    Selena is a Texas native who was born in Grand Prairie and her family still lives in the Lone Star State.
    'I don’t think you can be from Texas and not watch a Cowboys Thanksgiving game,' Selena said.

    The singer said she's watched past Red Kettle Kickoffs and chose Kelly Clarkson as a favourite past peformer.
    The Red Kettle Campaign traces its beginnings to a program launched in 1891 in San Francisco and will run through Christmas Day.
    Selena released her debut album Stars Dance in July and scored a hit single with Come & Get It.
