And on Friday former finalist Connie Talbot, now aged 15, caused just as much of a frenzy as she returned to TV with a performance on ITV's Loose Women.
Connie had fans rushing to Twitter to say how 'beautiful' she and her voice had become - even though she confessed to cringing about her 'chipmunk voice' from the audition, now nine years ago.

High praise came from all corners of the internet, many of them commending her maturity as they had done when she auditioned at six.
'Spectacular performance!' one said, while another added: 'It was amazing Connie. You were beautiful, confident, mature and lovely. Well done ❤'

The teenager lost out to Welsh opera singer Paul Potts in the final of BGT and she therefore didn't win the recording contract, like he did.
On her disappointment, Connie revealed: 'I think I was too little to be upset about not being given a record deal. I just wanted to go on the show and meet Simon [Cowell]. I wasn’t upset by it at all.
'You would have thought Simon would be scary but he was sweet.'

The judging line-up has changed considerably since the show's inception, and now David Walliams and Alesha Dixon complete the four-person panel with Amanda Holden.
Connie even revealed that she'd like to go back on the show, but as a guest and not a performer, this time.
The schoolgirl went to Los Angeles when she was 11 to work with Beyonce's producer and has been working tirelessly on her music career.
While she admits that her school work is very important to her, Connie said she had 'no idea' what she would do if singing didn’t work out.
