'I should be taken seriously': Justin Bieber emerges from an alien orb and gets booed by the crowd before taking home three awards... as Selena Gomez sizzles with sultry belly dance at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards
It's a toast to the top artists on the charts with a wild show of song and dance.
And that's just what Selena Gomez delivered as she led an evening of electric performances at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday.

Come and get it: Selena Gomez started off a star-studded night of performances with a song and dance to her latest single at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday
The 20-year-old former Disney star stepped out on stage surrounded by a bevy of dancers in a draping gold gown with matching futuristic hardware accents.
The young singer performed her latest single Come and Get It, a dance track off her upcoming album by the same name.
Selena jewelled her forehead in an homage to the Indian theme of her hit song, which she also conveyed with a sultry belly dancing break.
Inspired: The former Disney star has said her performances of the tune were mirrored after Britney Spears' 2001 hit I'm A Slave 4 U
All locked up: The 20-year-old wore a gold gown with a metal bodice made especially for her slim figure
Energetic: Selena and her dancers made full use of the stage
Barefoot beauty: Selena went shoe-less so she could give the energetic dance routine her all
The performance takes a page out of the pop starlet book via Britney Spears' iconic Slave 4 U, which Selena has called an inspiration as she grows out of her Disney mold.
'I think [Britney's] one of the best that made that transition.
'That video ['Slave 4 U'] is so hot, it’s incredible, so I love that, and I definitely wanted to do that with my transition, but I don’t think there’s a path you have to follow. I think you just have to figure it out and hope for the best, so if it has a similarity, that’s only a compliment.'
VIDEO Billboard Awards. Performances plus Justin Bieber comments on rumours about the couple...
Quite an entrance: Justin Bieber surprised the crowd by starting off his performance of Take Off inside a glass bubble
Born to perform: Justin Bieber brought back memories of Lady Gaga's egg performance at the 2011 Grammy Awards
Step above: The Canadian singer was the only artist to perform two songs at the event
On the road: Justin just wrapped up a world-wide tour
He's surrounded: The 19-year-old was flanked by women off-stage as well as he reportedly sat beside Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift
Her performance was just one of many to kick off the celebration of the top artists on the charts by artists of the likes of Bruno Mars, Christina Aguilera, Macklemore as well as a pair of songs by Justin Bieber.
The 19-year-old singer showed that he had what it takes to fly off solo in an sky high themed performance that had him emerging from a futuristic egg prop.
The Canadian donned a one-sleeved leather bomber jacket with the logo Bieber Air -- which was also emblazoned on the large LED screens behind him.
Winner: Justin was honoured for being the Top Social Artist at the awards show
Old friends: Justin received a congratulatory embrace from fellow teen star Miley Cyrus
Not far away: Selena smirked while Taylor whispered an aside during Justin's award acceptance
Justin was flanked by female dancers in similar sexy leather outfits topped off with more familiar flight attendant hair caps.
The competing performances were just another battle in the saga between the former couple, who first split last December after a two-year-long romance.
Rumours swirled on Saturday that couple were reported to be sitting next to each other at the show, but neither showed any signs that they had been reunited.
Keeping her distance: Selena later popped on stage as a presenter
Ready to rock: Taylor Swift took the stage with a crowd of dancers
Leggy lady: She showed off her famous pins in a particularly daring move
She's her biggest fan: The 23-year-old wore a shirt with the line 'haters gonna hate'
Who are your friends? Taylor was joined on stage by a group of colourfully-dressed masked dancers
Big winner: Taylor took home a staggering eight gongs at the prestigious awards
Speculation set off like wildfire after show host Tracy Morgan tweeted a picture of himself sitting between two seat holder placards with Justin and Selena's names on them in response to a question from a fan.
'Does this answer your question?' the former SNL comedian tweeted back.
But the two were actually sitting across the aisle from each other as they were captured on cameras in the front row during the show.
Back for more: Between raking in awards Justin Bieber popped back on stage to perform That Power with Will.i.am
Culture clash: Host Tracy Morgan joked that the Black Eyed Peas singer was wearing an Amish hat

Behind the scenes played a different story, as the duo embraced and shared a light peck as they ran into each other back stage.
Selena put her arm around Justin to lean in and give him a tender kiss on the cheek while Taylor Swift looked on, chiming in her opinion by throwing out her tongue in disgust.
While the duo affectionately greeted one another, the meeting appeared more like friends catching up rather than a couple chatting after getting back together.
Not a fan favourite: Justin was booed by fans as he accepted the Milestone Award
His only defender: The singer rationalized with haters that he is 'only 19' and 'should be taken seriously'
Hitting at critics: 'I'm 19 years old, I think I'm doing a pretty good job,' he said
The pair appeared to have patched things up since they were caught kissing backstage in Norway, and were then seen cuddling in a picture uploaded to Instagram by Justin last month before he deleted it.
And the day before the show the 19-year-old superstar and the former Disney starlet arrived in Vegas early, and were spotted at the Cirque du Soleil's Love show together.
Justin tried to enter the Mirage venue incognito, but was rumbled when an onlooker shouted out his name.
Vegas flair: Tracy Morgan acted as host for the spectacular event
Making a move: Between awards Tracy challenged Psy to a Gentleman dance-off
Two of a kind: The comedian laughed it up beside the YouTube sensation
Off to a rocking start: Bruno Mars opened the show with his song Treasure
Retrotastic: The Hawaiian-born singer stood out as a classic performance
He then spent the entire night 'nuzzling right into' his former girlfriend as they snacked on M&M chocolates, People magazine reported.
The fire between the pair was enough to keep the spark alive at Sunday's awards show, which aired live on ABC.
Diva duet: Christina Aguilera and Pitbull joined forces to sing their popular tune Feel This Moment
Back to basics: The mother-of-one has lost a significant amount of weight in recent months
Want her body: The Genie In A Bottle proudly displayed her slim figure
Electrifying: Pitbull had the crowd dancing along as Christina showed off her powerful pipes
Justin hit back at the press speculation about his life as he accepted one of his multiple awards -- including top male artist, social artist and the fan-voted Milestone award.
'I'm 19 years old, I think I'm doing a pretty good job,' he said to boos from the audience.
'From my heart I really just want to say it should really be about the music, it should be about the craft that I'm making.
'This is not a gimmick -- I'm an artist and I should be taken seriously and all this other bull should not be spoken.'
Birdcage: Jennifer Lopez wore a feathered and studded top for her Vegas-inspired performance
Boosting her caboose: The singer was raised high above the stage by a group of male dancers -- including her beau Casper Smart
Ready for take-off: The 43-year-old proudly spread her billowing sleeves
Impressive moves: She then got down on the stage and kicked her legs up in full splendour
Standing out: Pitbull, who wore an eye-catching pair of yellow trousers, joined Jennifer on stage for the performance
The rift between the pair was brought even more to attention when Selena reappeared on stage to introduce her 'best friend in the entire world' Taylor Swift.
The leggy blonde performed her television debut of her single 22 starting off behind the scenes before being greeted by a raucous crowd of hip dressed dancers on stage.
She later returned to the stage to emerge as the most winning artist at the show, taking home eight golden microphones of 11 awards including top artist and top Billboard 200 album for Red.
She's still got it: Madonna stepped out on stage in a fur, leather and mesh ensemble topped with garters and and a choker
Number one, and two: The 54-year-old was honoured for the top grossing tour in 2011, which goes on record as only being bested by her 2008 Sticky and Sweet tour
Trade off: After a quick thanks to her fans, she handed off her sunglasses to Will.i.am as she received her trophy
Taylor -- who bested her former flame Harry Styles' band One Direction's minuscule eight nominations -- acknowledged her relationship with her fans as being her greatest achievement.
'You are the longest and best relationship I ever had,' she said.
Other key finalists included fun. and Maroon 5 who tied Taylor for 11 award noms each; Rihanna and Carly Rae Jepsen were up for 10 and nine trophies, respectively.
Only the best: Prince performed in a 60s inspired performance as he was presented with the Icon Award
Legendary: The 54-year-old had no trouble keeping the crowd on their feet
Flaunt it: Prince showed off his unique style in a mint-coloured outfit and a black fringe coat
Prince, who will receive the icon award, also hit the stage with a medley of his jams Let's Go Crazy and a new tune Fix Ur Life Up in a mint-coloured ensemble and an afro wig straight out of the 60s.
Madonna was another top honouree as she was dubbed top touring artist for her 2011 tour MDNA.
Queen Madge was presented the award by Will.i.am, who introduced her by proclaiming that his favourite of her catalogue was Like A Virgin -- 'not that I know anything about that.'
Fierce: Chris Brown showed off his slick moves during his performance of Fine China
Bright light: The performance featured a black and red theme as Chris switched it up between a glittering mic stand and free styling
Getting some air: The 24-year-old flipped around on stage, jumping higher than his equally skilled backup dancers
Shaolin shake: The Don't Judge Me singer performed a martial arts infused jitterbug routine in an all-black suit
The 54-year-old diva poked fun at her own over-the-top personality, bickering about her 'pretentious' sunglasses and expressing anger over her microphone being too low for her height.
She also took home trophies for top dance artist and dance album for MDNA and thanked her fans for helping her through her 30-year career.
'Thank you for supporting me for three decades. Without you I truly wouldn't be here,' she said, gesturing at the crowd.

Adorn: Miguel stepped out on stage in a leather-dipped tuxedo as he sang his chart topper
Taking a leap: The Los Angeles native made a hasty choice to join his fans down below
Hard landing: Miguel slipped off the platform, landing atop two females in the audience
Shake it off: While Miguel cradled his knee, the two women grabbed their heads, but all quickly rejoined the fun
Belting it out: Country music group The Band Perry also kept fans entertained with their energetic performance
Amping up the beat: David Guetta performed one of his hit tracks, much to the delight of the crowd
Another memorable moment came as Miguel performed his passionate slow jam Adorn.
Partway through the song he decided he wanted to get close-up with his fans and jumped into the crowd -- landing ontop of two women, one who quickly bounced back while the other was seen cradling her head for the remainder of the song.
The Los Angeles native looked to be hurt as well as he kept seated and held on to his knee for a few seconds before reaching back to console the wrong fan.
Too cool for school: Nicki Minaj returned to the stage to show why she won top rap artist to perform her song High School
Never too much Nicki: The female rap star peaked the performance with a special lap dance
More than just music: Nicki was by Lil Wayne's bedside earlier this year after he was hospitalized for seizures
Does that mean you don't like it? Lil Wayne made a series of unpleasant faces, leaving the audience questioning his true feelings
Winner: Nicki accepted her award for Top Rap Artist from Shania Twain, who showed off her newly-dyed red hair
And Nicki Minaj, who won the first award in the telecast for top rap artist, took the stage to cap off the show.
'I definitely did not expect this one,' she said, wearing a bright red dress.
She later returned in all black and a pair of cut-up leggings for her performance of High School with Lil Wayne.
The 30-year-old bounced around on stage, flaunting her ample curves even as she got down for a provocative lap dance with the rapper.
Presenting an icon: Eryhak Badu and Janelle Monae introduced Prince as the final act
Star-studded: Miley Cyrus, Celine Dion and Jenny McCarthy were among the celebrity presenters at the awards
