Naomi Watts brings Diana Spencer back to life in new film stills from new biopic

Hello England's rose: Naomi Watts brings Diana Spencer back to life in new film stills from new biopic

The country said goodbye to Diana Spencer in 1997, but this year the People's Princess has been brought back to life in a film biopic of her life.
In new film stills from the movie titled Diana, Naomi Watts brings the beloved royal back to life, recreating famous images of the former Princess of Wales.
The film directed by Olivier Hirschbiegel, follows the final years of British icon's life before her tragic death in Paris, that forced the world into mourning.

Lying on a white sofa, with her chin resting on her crossed hands and looking directly at the camera, Naomi, 44, is the spitting image of Diana's Mario Testino portrait for Vanity Fair published just months before her untimely death in a car crash in 1997.
But the actress wears a black sequined dress in the film still rather than the white beaded number the Princess wore in the magazine spread it was based upon, which featured Diana wearing a few of the 79 gowns she had worn as a royal, but was auctioning off for charity.
It probably was the perfect image to recreate when considering the changing time in Spencer's life, and the focus of the movie on her latter years.

But while the movie trailer shows Naomi on the red carpets, touring an Angolan minefield and fending off paparazzi on the street, the real story centres on her relationship with a British-Pakistani heart and lung surgeon.
Dr. Hasnat Khan had been described by some as'“the love of [Diana's] life' and the pair reportedly ended their romance just weeks before her death.
The BBC, reported that Khan 'believed the press intrusion would make his life hell' and their hidden 18-month relationship will certainly feature throughout the new biopic with Lost's Naveen Andrews taking on the role of the surgeon.

In preparation for the film, Naomi spent six weeks with a dialogue coach and got access to Diana's actual wardrobe, and Vanity Fair report that she had 'visits from the late People's Princess during [her] dreams' and made use of a prosthetic nose.
But in both the trailer and stills, the actress's nose does not seem to have been altered at all, which means that apart from the haircut, accent and wardrobe, the British-born Australian star will be relying on her acting skills to convey the mannerisms of the former Princess.
Back in New York on Thursday though, there was nothing about Diana to see on Naomi, who looked thoroughly modern and casual as she and her son Samuel walked in the rain.
Diana is due in U.K. theaters in September—it does not yet have a U.S. release date
