H&M Studio's fall 2016 fashion show in Paris yesterday was a star-studded affair. Ciara, 30, Kate Mara, Emma Roberts, Suki Waterhouse and Olivia Palermo watched from the front row as top models Ashley Graham, Pat Cleveland, Anja Rubik and Andreja Pejic stomped down the runway. But perhaps the biggest star of the show was singer Ciara's gorgeous double crown braid.
Created by hairstylist Cesar Ramirez, the intricate-yet-undone look perfectly complemented the 1, 2 Step songstress' funky H&M dress.
'I usually always attend Ciara’s fittings,' said the hairstylist, who serves as Mizani's global artistic director. 'It helps me get inspired and prepare for the looks we will be doing. I wanted to play off the fun patterns in the dress. I immediately thought something tribal, twisted, dreaded and maybe frizzy would complete her look.'
Hair envy: Ciara, 30, sat front row at H&M Studio's fall 2016 fashion show in Paris yesterday. She wore a colorful dress by the retailer and a gorgeous double crown braid created by her hairstylist, Cesar Ramirez
To achieve the look, Cesar first created a center part at Ciara's hairline, which went back about an inch and a half. He then made a zigzag part in the back so there wouldn't be a visible straight line, but hair could be separated into two sides, like loose pigtails. Starting as close to the top of her head as possible, Cesar French-braided each side until he reached ear level. At that point, he switched to a fishtail technique.
He then crossed the braids and pinned the ends above the nape of the neck. At this point, Cesar used hair extensions that he had previously fishtail braided to create a faux-hair headband. He used hair pins to secure it just behind the original plait.
To get that loose, frizzy texture, he gently pulled on each strand in the braids and sprayed Mizani Shyne Bodifying Sheen Spray and HRM Humidity Resistant Mist over the finished look.
The style is a change of pace for Ciara who frequently wears her hair down with loose waves, and it appears her fans approve. Photos of the look that the singer posted on her Instagram account have already earned thousands of likes and comments of praise.
In the details: Cesar, who was inspired by the singer's patterned dress, says the key to achieving the 'tribal' look is to switch from a French braid to a fishtail braid mid-plait
