They added: ‘Her relationship with Simon is the best it's ever been and they both are incredibly supportive of each other’.
The insider claimed that there wasn’t any fallout with Simon about her decision, after Simon famously fired Cheryl from the US version of the show in 2011 which resulted in a long-running feud between the two.
The source claimed that Cheryl wants to put her focus solely on her music career after putting it on hold to mentor acts on the show.
Cheryl, who is expected to release new music before the end of the year, is currently working on new material in Los Angeles while she spends some quality time with new boyfriend Liam Payne.

Meanwhile, veteran judge Louis Walsh is also being considered for a comeback after he was fired from the show last year.
The source continued: '[Simon] wants his friend back by his side like the good old days, but he’s coming up against resistance from producers.'

In or out? Cheryl's days could be numbered even if she does decide to stay on, as Sharon's return would put both the Fight For This Love singer and Rita Ora at risk of losing their judges seat

The star who has polarised viewers, could also convince Sharon Osbourne to return following her stint on the judging panel from the creation to season four.
However Cheryl's days could have been numbered even if she did decide to stay on, as Sharon's return would put both the Fight For This Love singer and Rita Ora at risk.
Sharon - who also returned to the show briefly for season 10 - is believed to be keen to work alongside the Irish music manager once more.
Louis has previously admitted his willingness to return to the show, and claimed the ultimate line-up would also include Sharon, but made no mention of Cheryl.

'If Simon asked me back, and I thought it would be fun, then absolutely I would,' he said.
He continued: 'If he wants the dream team then he gets me, him, Sharon Osbourne and either Mel B or Nicole Scherzinger.'
The latest news comes after Dermot O'Leary confirmed his return to the show after leaving last year.
His comeback came as presenter Olly Murs resigned from the much-maligned programme, following the unexpected departure of his co-host, Caroline Flack.
