Ruth Negga: The Irish Actress You 100% Need To Know About Right Now

If you think you've seen Ruth Negga's face before, chances are you probably have.
The Ethiopian-Irish actress has been very much around since her breakthrough role in Neil Jordan's
Breakfast On Pluto (alongside Peaky Blinders badass Cillian Murphy) back in 2005, and is probably
best known for her portrayal of Raina in ABC's Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

However, starring in a film that's been nominated for the 2016 Palme d'Or at Cannes is going to get you noticed pretty sharpish - and that's precisely what's happening to Ruth Negga right now.

Ruth is in Cannes as we speak promoting Jeff Nichols' new flick Loving, a real-life drama in which she stars as Mildred Loving, the wife of Richard (played by the ridiculously magnificent Joel Edgerton) and the court case they bring to the Supreme Court in 1967 after 'violating' a Virginia law that opposes interracial marriage.

The film has some SERIOUS Oscar buzz already, and Ruth seems to be taking the whole thing in her stride.
She told The Hollywood Reporter at Cannes:
'I have not been aggressive in my pursuit of being a star.'

She goes on to add:
'I've never had a plan. Maybe I need to be more aggressive, because it's quite tough.'

No doubt about it, Ruth is already causing some ripples in the A-list. Along with the 'psst, Oscar' whispers is the fact that Ms Negga is due to appear in the much anticipated Preacher adaptation (ask your nerdy boy people) that AMC are airing May 22nd.

She'll be playing Tulip, the sassy ex-squeeze of lead Jesse Custer (played by Dominic Cooper, whom Ruth is allegedly dating *swoon*), and if the fan reception is anything to go by, it's clear that Ruth will be reaching Margot Robbie/Harley Quinn comic gal status very, VERY soon.
So, keep your eyes peeled for this lady because chances are she'll be toting a gold statuette sometime in the near future.
And we wish her ALL the luck in the world.
