'Being beautiful doesn't mean being skinny,' says Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell as she shares her fitness tips

She plays a sweet swimmer in ABC Family's hit drama Pretty Little Liars.
And it seems Shay Mitchell has a lot in common with her character Emily Fields, prioritizing her health and maintaining an active lifestyle.
'Being beautiful doesn't mean being skinny. It's about being healthy,' the 26-year-old actress said in the June issue of Self magazine, which she covers with her sculpted bikini body.

The Canadian-native revealed that her life-changing moment came when she was 17-years-old and living in Hong Kong.
'I'd starve myself for a day, and the next day I was hungry, tired and miserable. When I felt so bad about not being able to fit into size 0 jeans, I realized I had to make a change.'
Now, the Filipino/Irish star currently lives by the saying 'She loved life and life loved her back,' which is written in Palawan on her vision board.

Her lifestyle reflects this motto by the way she treats her body, mind, and soul.
'It's important to wake up every day and remind yourself what you're working toward. You create your own life. It's not set out there for you,' Shay said.
The starlet envisioned herself becoming a Hollywood actress before she made it onto a national TV show, and she even has a plan for last-minute shape-up situations.
Her number one rule for having one week to look hot is not to panic, because the stress shows.

Then she fills her week by cooking as much as she can, drinking lots of water, and switching up her workout routines.
One day she'll run back and forth on the beach for 45 minutes and climb a 24-foot rope at an outdoor gym in Santa Monica.
Another day, Shay - or as she likes to call herself, Shayonce - will dance her bum off in a studio.
The rest of the brunette beauty's week includes weight training with 2-pound ankle weights, treadmill intervals for 20 minutes, jump roping sessions, shadowbox, spinning, and a sweating trip to a sauna.
Shay also maintains a healthy diet, including eating foods such as seaweed snacks, raw almonds, green tea, berries, fresh juices, and egg-white omelets.
