She was scouted in her local Primark at the tender age of fifteen, and just a year later sashayed down the catwalk as the first black model to walk a Prada runway since Naomi Campbell, more than a decade earlier.
And more than just following in her footsteps, Jourdan Dunn actually credits her success to advice she received from the iconic supermodel.
The fashion industry can be very cut-throat, but 22-year-old Dunn revealed that Campbell, 43, taught her how to look after herself: by bringing her own snacks to photo shoots in case the crew forgot to feed her.

Speaking to Vogue.com, she said: 'She told me I had to look after myself - to remember to look after number one.
'She told me to take my own snacks on shoots in case they forget to feed you - which they do sometimes! And she told me not to forget to ask for time off otherwise you'll be booked in for job after job after job and never get a break.'
Eating disorders and pressure to stay whippet-thin are rife in the industry - Kate Moss recently revealed she wasn't fed when she started out as a young model - so Dunn's revelation comes as no surprise.
But while it's easy to assume models avoid eating in order to stay pin thin, Jourdan is actually an avid cook and even hosts her own online cooking show, Well Dunn.
The show appears on Jay Z's Life+Times YouTube channel, and she regularly interviews famous friends while making them a meal.

And while many - even reportedly Kate Moss - find Campbell intimidating, Dunn had no qualms meeting one of fashion's most famous faces.
The first time Dunn met the supermodel was backstage at Kate Moss' Topshop show, and the young model said she didn't have time to be nervous because Naomi ran over and gave her a huge hug - even though Dunn was half-naked at the time.
Now dubbed her protegee, Dunn has since appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia, won Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards 2008, appeared at the Olympic Closing Ceremony and fronted campaigns for the likes of Burberry, Yves Saint Laurent and Tommy Hilfiger.
