Speculation: Ruby Tandoh has rubbished rumours of any possible romance with Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood
In what is likely to be a nasty dent to Hollywood’s ego, the former model literally laughed at the notion she might fancy him.
Asked if she regarded Hollywood as a sex symbol, Miss Tandoh – hot favourite to win the fourth series of the show – said: ‘No, not for me!’
The philosophy and history of art student added: ‘Not my thing, you know, for other people maybe that’s what they go for.’
However, she did admit being fond of the presenter, who split with his wife this year after an affair with 35-year-old Marcela Valladolid – his co-star on the American version of the bakery show.
Favourite: Paul often remarks on Ruby's talent in the kitchen and awarded her the 'star baker' accolade
Miss Tandoh, who studies at University College London, told The Tab online student newspaper: ‘He’s a genuinely nice guy, he really is, and actually I quite like his style of baking as well because he’s really into bread and it’s something I enjoy.
'He has to play the bad cop on screen, but off screen he’s lovely.’
Miss Tandoh, of Southend, Essex, admitted she had never heard about Bake Off before the last series – which coincided with her starting to experiment with baking.
She said the show seemed like a ‘good challenge’ and when she was picked to appear she knuckled down to learn a wider range of techniques.
All female final: Ruby is up against Frances, Kimberly and Beca since Christine (centre) was eliminated
She added: ‘I used to take my creations into the common room at uni and leave them there anonymously, listening to people saying they liked them.
‘Eventually they realised it was me and I became known as the cooking girl.’
Experts predict Miss Tandoh could soon follow in the footsteps of TV chefs Nigella Lawson and Lorraine Pascale.
Several publishers are thought to be considering approaches to encourage her to write a cookery book which could in turn lead to a TV show.
