But if Dave Myers is preparing to bow out of the BBC1 competition tonight, at least he will go out with a smile on his face.

Taking on the role of female lead – as played by Kate Winslet in the 1997 blockbuster – he allowed himself to be clasped by his dance partner Karen Hauer, who stood in for Leonardo DiCaprio.
Last Saturday, the pair came bottom of the Strictly leader board after their dance to Maroon 5’s single Moves Like Jagger was branded ‘terrifying’ by the judges.
Craig Revel Horwood, who gave them a score of two out of ten, said he ‘recoiled in horror’ at the sight of Myers dragging his partner across the floor.

He recreated the move on the roof of his boat, but this time allowed Miss Hauer to pull him by the heel instead.
The scenes were reminiscent of John Sergeant’s inelegant paso doble on the same show in 2008, in which he pulled Kristina Rihanoff behind him.
No doubt Myers will be hoping for some of Sergeant’s luck. By winning the public’s affections, the journalist remained in the show for ten weeks despite consistently coming bottom of the leader board.

The 55-year-old lives in Barrow-in-Furness with his wife Liliana, 46, and his stepchildren Serge, 24, and Iza, 18,
But for the duration of the show, he has moved out of the family home in and into a barge on the Thames in London.
The food presenter is hoping to make it through to the live show in Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom so he can dance in front of his home crowd.
He said: ‘I'm not afraid to flash my chest if it means I can stay in another week. I did threaten to cut all my hair off, but I might just get a trim and dye my beard instead.’
