Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch gave his fans something new to marvel at as he began work on his latest film.

Our exclusive picture shows the actor in New York as he begins work on the new Marvel action adventure Doctor Strange.

Cumberbatch whose big-screen credits include The Imitation game, plays Stephen Strange, a brilliant egotistical surgeon who faces ruin when his hands are injured in a car accident.

Unable to find a conventional cure, Strange travels to the Himalayas and learns the secrets of magic and mysticism.

In the film - out later this year - he will star alongside Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
