Her character's storylines have involved Maxine suffering abuse from husband Patrick Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) and the actress is pleased show bosses have handled it so realistically.
She told The Mirror: 'Hollyoaks has done so much research, Jeremy and I did so much research to make sure the storyline was done on a realistic level and a realistic timeline.
'We really, really very carefully have gone everything with a fine tooth comb to make sure everything we perform, everything that was said, it’s real to life.'

'This storyline, from the feedback, has really helped people in real life because it’s shown signs and situations that people didn’t recognise as domestic abuse,' she added.
While the star admitted to ITV's Lorraine that it's been 'horrible' to watch what has happened to Maxine, she is grateful to have been trusted with this role.
Whoever casted the actress certainly made a good decision as her performance has not only won over Hollyoaks fans across the country but also politicians.
'The Home Office actually got in contact with Hollyoaks [after watching the storyline pan out] to see if they could work in conjunction with us on its This Is Abuse campaign,' Nikki added.
'The campaign really has been quite successful. It's worked really well and it was honour to work with the government.'
