And it appears that Selena Gomez's character is quite the multitasker.
Just hours after being pictured cradling an infant on the set of the period flick, the starlet channeled her more masculine side as she chopped away at some wood.

Shooting scenes: Selena Gomez was spotted back on set of her new period drama In Dubious Battle in Atlanta, Georgia this week
The 22-year-old plays young mother Lisa London in onscreen adaptation of the 1936 novel by John Steinbeck.
She could be seen dressed in 1930's garb, a simple cotton floral frock with buttons on the front and frilled sleeves.
She also donned some modern black wellington boots hinting that she was just practicing her wood-chopping skills in-between takes.
Quite the multitasker: The 22-year-old star appeared to have a firm grip on the axe as she steadied herself with her foot on the tree stump. A toy baby lay on a seat beside her
Simple: The Heart Wants Wants What It Wants singer looked pretty in a floral cotton dress and wellington boots
Previously the singer was seen cradling a baby to her chest while awaiting director James Franco's instruction ahead of a rural scene.
Selena appeared rather taken with the tot as she mingled with co-star Josh Hutcherson before taking centre stage amongst an ensemble cast of extras dressed as farm workers.
But if she looked like an expert as she cradled the baby, it was with good reason – the actress had previously been given a lifelike doll with which to practice shortly after arriving on set.

Lovely: The actress cradled a baby earlier on set which caught the attention of producers Andrea Iervolino & Monika Bacardi
Making sure not to fall as she made her way around the uneven field upon which they filmed, Selena rehearsed with the doll for close to two hours before being trusted with the real thing.
The actress later caught the eye of visiting producers Andrea iervolino and Monika Bacardi - both of whom crowded round to get a glimpse of the baby.
Their latest venture, set during the Great Depression, tells the story of an activist who gets caught up in a labour movement with Californian farm workers.

The actress joined her A-list cast for another day of production of the period piece but took time out of her busy shooting schedule to show off her glamorous side with a throwback photo on her Instagram page.
The multihypenate entertainer sported a disheveled hairstyle with her long brunette tresses loosely gathered in a low ponytail.

The ex-girlfriend of Justin Bieber shared a snap of herself from a prior photo shoot displaying a cleavage baring ensemble while looking seductive on a sandy beach.
With full makeup and hair treatment no doubt completed by a glam squad, the pop star was all dolled up for the photo spread.
Most recently, Selena just finished filming The Revised Fundamentals Of Caregiving in the same Georgia capital with actor Paul Rudd.
Plenty to talk about: Iervolino and Hutcherson enjoyed a lively chat on set
Getting in on the act: Selena later posed for a photo with the two producers
In addition to her dramatic movies, the star is anticipating the September 25 release of the animated sequel Hotel Transylvania 2 in which she reprises her voiceover role of Mavis.
Music wise, her EDM single I Want You To Know with alleged beau Zedd continues to stay on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that the ex-girlfriend of Justin Bieber gave some helpful advice and ideas to comedian Jeff Ross for him to use at recent Bieber's Comedy Central Roast.
A-list cast: The BFF of Taylor Swift was accompanied by the film's director James Franco along with the star-studded ensemble: Josh Hutcherson, Robert Duvall, Ashley Greene, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ahna O'Reilly, and Analeigh Tipton among others (posted on Friday)
Self-proclaimed Roastmaster General and the event's organizer Jeff Ross revealed that he reached out to the 21-year-old crooner's former love for ideas on how to make fun of Justin.
'I talked to Selena Gomez,' he shared to Huff Post about his research to dig up dirt.
'I ran into her and asked her for advice on roasting the Biebs, and she said, "Tell the truth. That always worked for me."'
The Comedy Central special aired on March 30.
In Dubious Battle: The James Franco-directed film is an adaptation of the 1936 John Steinbeck novel under the same title and tells the story of an activist who gets caught up in the labor movement for farm workers in California during the 1930s (shared on March 21)
