The EE BAFTA Film Awards 2016 kicked off in glorious style on Sunday.
Held at London's iconic Royal Opera House in Covent Garden for the 10th year running, expectations were high for this, the most prestigious of events in the British movie industry's calendar. 
Leading the way and turning on the glamour on the red carpet was TV presenter Laura Whitmore, show looked typically stylish in a BAFTA blue-coloured gown.

Meanwhile, as for the success stories of this year's BAFTAs, Carol and Bridge Of Spies lead the way with nine nominations each.
Both have been nominated for Best Film, along with The Revenant, The Big Short and Spotlight.
Eddie Redmayne has been nominated for the second year in a row for a BAFTA Best Actor award, for his role in The Danish Girl.
He has been widely applauded for his role as a transgender artist - after his win in 2015 for The Theory of Everything.
The moving film is based on a fictitious love story, which is loosely inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener.

Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer. 
Leonardo DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass in highly acclaimed movie, The Revenant.

He must then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers.
In Big Short, four denizens in the world of high-finance predict the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000s, and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight.
Starring Christian Bale and Steve Carrell, the movie is one of five titles up for Best Film. 
With Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton on board, it's little wonder that Spotlight has also caught the eye of the judges. 
It focuses on the true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core. 
Tom Hanks and Charlotte Rampling were three big names who have all been notably missed from the list of nominations this year.
