Bright and beautiful! Rachel McAdams, Jessica Biel, Cate Blanchett and Jessica Chastain bring vibrant color to Independent Spirit Awards
Some of Hollywood's biggest stars made an appearance at the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica on Saturday.
The blue carpet at the beach-side venue was awash with color as a selection of the year's most notable actresses made bold statements in vibrant and playful looks.
Rachel McAdams was the first to arrive in a colorblock dress with an orange sleeveless top and long white skirt with dramatic folds.

The 37-year-old Spotlight star wore her blonde locks pulled back and wore light makeup, completing her look with a blush box clutch.
She was followed by Jessica Biel, 33, who wore a flattering blue and red dress that had both a halter top cross tie in the front and was off the shoulder.
The 7th Heaven vet also had on blue heels that were decorated with beaded yellow tassels.
She wore her long locks in beachy waves.

Cate Blanchett, 46, who is nominated in the best female lead category for Carol, was ethereal in a blush gown with colorful embroidery.
Jessica Chastain opted for a royal blue dress that showed off her cleavage and teamed it with metallic stilettos.
Sporting an intricately beaded frock was best female lead nominee Brie Larson, who is also nominated for an Oscar on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Room star wore her locks in a messy up 'do and chose complementary silver heels.

Rooney Mara - also nominated for best female lead in Carol - stood out in a pleated dress with black heels that wrapped around her ankles. Her raven locks were pulled back and she wore almost no eye makeup except mascara that gave her a youthful glow.
Members of Film Independent and IFP - which is made up of a community of filmmakers, film industry leaders, and film lovers - get to vote for the best of the past year's films and filmmakers.
Unlike the scandal surrounding the white-washed Oscars this year, there's no doubt the Independent Spirit Awards ticks the diversity box.
Nominees for best feature include lesbian drama Carol, transgender flick Tangerine, animated feature Anomalisa and African civil war drama Beasts of No Nation.

Carol's Blanchett and Mara will battle it out for best female lead against Bel Powley (The Diary of a Teenage Girl), Golden Globe winner Brie Larson (Room) and Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, (Tangerine).
Ghanain newcomer Abraham Attah of Netflix's Beasts of No Nation is up for best male lead against Jason Segel (The End of The Tour), former Girls star Christopher Abbot (James White), Koudous Seihon (Mediterranea) and Ben Mendelsohn (Mississippi Grind).
Indie favourite Tangerine - the gritty drama by Sean S. Baker which was filmed on three iPhone 5s smartphones - has four nods including best director.

Claymation drama Anomalisa has been nominated for best feature, best screenplay and best director.
Jennifer Jason Leigh lent her voice in the animation and has a supporting actress nod.
She is predicted to win in the category but will have close competition against another favourite; Tangerine's Mya Taylor.
Silicon Valley's Kumail Nanjiani co-hosts this year's ceremony with SNL's Kate McKinnon.
