The injury, a 'freak accident' following her attempt to navigate a downward slope without poles, ruled Ola, who was quickly replaced by Chloe Madeley, out of action for nine months.
Despite the physicality of her job, Ola revealed that she didn't realise how serious her injury was and the implications it would have on her career.
'I didn't understand the injury at the time and how bad it was. I didn't know whether I'd be able to walk again, be able to run, let alone dance,' the star told the Sunday People's Janine Yaqoob.

She added: 'It's the worst thing I've ever been through. It was very hard. More so for [my husband] James in some ways.'
Ola, who has been married to former Strictly Come Dancing star James Jordan, 37, for 12 years, has since made a remarkable recovery and has rejoined the show.
But it's taken a lot of work for the blonde bombshell to get back on form and she took to physiotherapy straight away.

Despite having worked so hard to get back up to standard, Ola revealed in an her episode of Seven Days With... on ITVBe that she'd happily leave her job to have a child.
In quotes revealed in The Mirror, she said: 'I know my clock is ticking. I'm 32 now. If I had a baby it would be unfair to leave it with James. That's how I feel.'
She went on to explain that it's a completely different situation for her, as she couldn't be a dancer as well as raising a child.
'Strictly is different from doing a normal job. But I also wanted to be the first female pro dancer to last for 10 years,' she added.
OIa first appeared on the BBC's top celebrity dancing programme back in 2006, after having moved to the UK from Poland when she was 17, and she's excited to be making her return in the upcoming series now that she has made a full recovery.
