Spotlight on The Woman in Black star Phoebe Fox
Born London, 1987 (no relation to the famous Fox acting dynasty!).
Big break After impressing at London’s Almeida Theatre (as Cordelia to Jonathan Pryce’s King Lear) and the Young Vic (as Catherine in A View From the Bridge), this week Phoebe is centre stage in new movie The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, a sequel to the 2012 horror hit which starred Daniel Radcliffe. She plays Eve, a teacher who accompanies a group of evacuated children to creepy Eel Marsh House during the Blitz. ‘Before that, my only part in a film had three lines, which were subsequently cut,’ she says.
Style Phoebe, who met her American actor husband Kyle Soller at Rada, loves Parisian street fashion: ‘The French are so phenomenally, casually chic! I also like vintage, and am never past borrowing stuff from my mum.’
She says ‘I admire actors such as Laura Linney, Cate Blanchett and Andrea Riseborough, who take risks and fight to not be defined by their gender.’
What’s next? Phoebe will reprise her role in A View From the Bridge when the show comes to London’s Wyndham’s Theatre in February. She’ll also be playing Lady Anne in Richard III and Henry VI Part Two for the second cycle of The Hollow Crown – the BBC2 series of Shakespeare’s history plays – alongside Benedict Cumberbatch.
The Woman in Black: Angel of Death will be in cinemas from Thursday
