Tragedy! The official Steps fragrance goes on sale and beats Britney, Lady Gaga and Madonna to top of the perfume charts

In the pink: The fragrance packaging plays up to Steps' kitsch disco-loving image
They might have been the Last Thing On Your Mind of late, but nineties pop sensation Steps have actually been rather busy.
As well as executing a sell-out reunion tour and appearing on every daytime TV show going Claire, H, Lisa, Lee and Faye have also found the time to create their very own scent - rather aptly called ‘Guilty Pleasure’.
The launch of the rather naff looking perfume has been no Tragedy: since the release at The Fragrance Shop on Monday sales have been booming, with 'Guilty Pleasure' beating Britney, Lady Gaga and Madonna to the top spot in the cutthroat fragrance chart.
In a throw-back to pops 90s glory days the perfume is sold in a miniature gliter ball, and packaged in a disco-bright pink box.
Most of those buying the perfume though are reluctant to come out of the 'Steps closet', claiming when questioned that the scent definitely isn't for themselves.
Brace yourself Britian, over 73 per cent of purchasers admitted it was a secret ‘guilty pleasure’ gift for friends and family.
It seems many are buying the 'smell-of-Steps' as an ironic gift for those who may not be bold enough to so openly embrace their love of the band.
The quintet were famous for their synchronised dance moves, bright outfits and catchy lyrics, selling over 20 million records sold worldwide in their hay day.
Guilty 90s pleasure: You might not have the snazzy green wardrobe, but now you can smell like Steps
They began their chart success in 1997 with the Country And Western Line-Dancing cross-over hit single ‘5,6,7,8’, which they followed with a stream of high-energy hits such as 'After The Love Has Gone', 'One for Sorrow’ and the wedding-reception-staple ‘Tragedy.
Guilty Pleasure is described as ‘a dazzling fruity floral fragrance designed for fun loving women.'
Top notes of bergamot, cassis and raspberry ripple ‘provide an electric first impression’ with peony petals, geranium bourbon and aquatic accord at the heart.
At the base lie musk crystals, patchouli and vanilla cream.
Step back in time: Lee Latchford-Evans, Ian Watkins, Faye Tozer, Claire Richards and Lisa Scott-Lee all like to smell lively and floral apparently
Steps Reunited: The band performing in Stockport as part of their new tour, having ditched their jazzy 90s attire
In 2001 the band called it quits but finally reformed earlier this year and embarked upon a nationwide tour. The perfume is being released along with a new album, ‘Light Up The World’.
The Fragrance Shop spokesperson Daniel Thompson comments: ‘Celebrity fragrances are certainly on the up in the fragrance world with more people turning to celebrity scents that ever before.
‘The latest launch from Steps has seen them shoot to the top of the celebrity fragrance chart beating Britney, Lady Gaga and Madonna.
‘The disco ball bottle, fun floral scent and long awaited return reunion for fans proved too much of a temptation for their guilty pleasure’.
Steps Guilty Pleasure is available for £17.99 from www.thefragranceshop.co.uk or on the high street at your local The Fragrance Shop store. Missing out could be a tragedy!
