Yesterday controversial author Ellis put his hand up for the job of writing the screenplay for the film.
According to Digital Spy, he wrote in tweets that have since been removed from his account: 'I'm putting myself out there to write the movie adaptation [of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’]… This is not a joke. Christian Grey and Ana: potentially great cinematic characters.'
Ellis said both Scarlett and Twilight star Kristen Stewart would both be equally as good as Ana.
'Thinking more conventionally for Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey...Scarlett Johansson or Kristen Stewart,' he wrote.
The 48-year-old novelist also made suggestions for the male lead, proclaiming that Ryan Gosling would be ideal.
'Alex Pettyfer as Christian: too young?' he tweeted.
'Aaron Johnson as Christian Grey? In a perfect world it would be Ryan Gosling... David Cronenberg directing. Bret Easton Ellis writing. Ryan Gosling acting. Fifty Shades of Grey team.'
Ellis certainly has his heart set on Cronenberg directing, whom he worked with on American Psycho.
'I think David Cronenberg is a great idea for directing… and we worked together on American Psycho in its initial phase,' he tweeted.
Ellis also appeared to be making an appeal to the original writer of the novel, James, who as part of her deal with Universal gets approval of the script, director and cast.

E.L. James' explicit sensation has topped charts practically from the moment Vintage Books released it in early April.
The Fifty Shades books began as fan fiction, inspired by the Twilight series.
The books became a word-of-mouth e-book hit after first being distributed in 2011 by the Australia-based Writer's Coffee Shop Publishing House.
It became a must-have among well-heeled women on New York's Upper East Side, and was dubbed 'mommy porn' after many admitted the books made them want to have sex with their husbands.
Since Fifty Shades stormed the bestseller lists, it has also inspired themed sex workshops and even Funny or Die and Saturday Night Live comedy spoofs.
Not everybody is impressed by the series' racy content though; several libraries in Florida, Wisconsin and Georgia have banned the books.
Ellis is best known for his books American Psycho (1991) and Glamorama (1998), as well as his first novel, Less Than Zero, which he penned in 1985 at age 20, while still a student at Bennington College.
The best-selling author recently announced that Lindsay Lohan will star in latest film he wrote titled The Canyons.
Filming for the movie will begin in September.
