'Women are compartmentalized in our society': Charlize Theron speaks out against ageism as she poses for sizzling photoshoot
Charlize Theron has spoken out against ageism.
The Monster star said women should be able to ‘celebrate every age’ and not just look to 20-year-olds as role models.
The 39-year-old Oscar-winner declared she has stopped judging women because she doesn't want them to feel ‘compartmentalized', adding that many feel like ‘cut flowers who wilt’ when they get older.

Charlize said that having her son Jackson, three, had changed her mind about what it means to be a woman.
In an interview with W magazine, she said: ‘I think, like many women, I was judgmental toward women as they aged.
‘Women, in our society, are compartmentalized so that we start to feel like we’re cut flowers and after a while we will wilt.

‘I realize now that’s not the case - we can celebrate every age.
‘That’s my encouragement to 20 year olds who are terrified of getting older: Don’t have a nervous breakdown and don’t hit the Chardonnay too hard. Getting older is not that bad.’
The South Africa-born star is known for taking on difficult roles and is not afraid to change her appearance to suit the part, even though she is now the face of Christian Dior.

For her forthcoming role in the remake of the '80s action film Mad Max she shaved off her hair completely.
And in 2003 she shaved off her eyebrows, put in prosthetic teeth and gained 30lbs by eating donuts to portray serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster.
The transformation left her looking significantly older and barely recognisable - the role won her an Academy Award.

Asked what advice she would give to her younger self, Charlize said she would tell her to ‘calm down’.
'I was always in a rush. I felt like time was going to run out. Now that I’m older, I know I’m not missing out on anything', she explained.
‘Now, I go home, and that feels really good. When I hit 30, I realized I didn’t have to please everybody. I could actually enjoy life, which is not a bad thing at all.’
In the interview, the Hollywood beauty said that choosing to be a mother in her 30s has ‘been really great for me, it’s given me perspective’.
She also revealed she had a crush on Tom Hanks when she was younger after seeing him in the '80s comedy Turner and Hooch.
